So, I'm finally caught up w/ the Netflix offering of Dr Who. Still behind by a season, I suppose, but that's far better off than when I started.
Great great stuff. Count me as a fan now.
And as for Torchwood, I wasn't fully on board, though I did enjoy it as well. I have to say, that now I've seen the Doctor, it helped me appreciate and enjoy Torchwood a bit more. It's not on par w/ the Doctor, but still... should finish what's left of Torchwood shortly.
Love seeing James Marsters pop up, now and again. His character is a bit like Spike, towards the end, where he just didn't give a flip about much of anything, and loved to do things, just to annoy, just because.

Finally caught up w/ season 7, and now am awaiting the remainder of shows, with the Doctor's "new" companion.
I hear she's impossible!
This should be fun.
( Yes, it's a few months after the fact, but hell...as long as I get around to see them, that's all that matters. )

You mean the 11th Doctor, right. If David Tennant was in last night's episode I totally missed him.

David Tennant is the 10th Doctor, and is who I meant, but I stand corrected. It wasn't him.

Also, I just caught an episode from a ways back, which some how I had missed.
The Planet of the Dead.
And more importantly, the Doctor's 'almost' new companion... Christina ( Michelle Ryan )

Wow. Another amazing episode. Is it me, or does Dr Who get better and better w/ its guest stars.
Not one , but two great guests in The Cold War, even if the story was a tad lacking.
David Warner (Master Control- Tron ) and Lian Cunningham ( Game of Thrones ) were great to see.

Because the story was lacking I would hardly classify it as amazing, in fact the last two episodes have been poor, IMO.
Yes, the guest cast was good, but when you don't give them a good script to work with you're still screwed.
And to answer that question, no, it is not getting better. I love a lot of the episodes that Steven Moffat wrote during RTD's reign as show-runner, but I have been very disappointed with his handling of the show the past couple of seasons. During the same time he has also been working on Sherlock, and I think that has caused him to lose his grip on Who.

I misspoke. Amazing cast ( I thought so, at least ) but still mediocre episode.

Hey, you don't have to change your opinion just because I said something the opposite. I go into every Who episode wanting to like it, but I can't seem to overlook some glaring faults lately.

The episodes Moffat has written himself have been fairly good (such as the first of the current run - assuming that the loose ends are going to be fixed later). Unfortunately he hasn't written that many in the current series. Agree that "The Rings of Wossname" was utter twaddle and "Cold War" had some seriously lazy plotting.
