Even though he plays an utterly despicable character, you can't help but like him a bit. He is just a man trying to stay true to his loyalties, but that forces him to do horrible things. You kinda hope he survived the war and moved to the frontier to avoid the backlash from his neighbors...maybe even changing his name...to something like Cobb. 
Plus, it's Adam! How can you not like him?

It makes a great point about FF being his first chance to exercise his comedic timing. Even in DC Cab, he was the straight man in that ensemble.
