THIS is definately the darkest timeline.

-In July, the electric company came in to "trim" 6 or 7 nice, big, (stable!) trees along the 400' meandering driveway. Near the dilapitated old house that nobody uses, was a nice clump of 5; 2 and 3 on either side of the driveway, creating a shady canopy with flowers around. It was a cool spot to park the Red Raven (the 93 Olds), even cooler than the garage!

Now... *sigh* ...it's just stumps and bits of trunks. Such a waste.

-Starting, I think in August, some guy named "Mike" saw the downed trees in our yard and offered to do some logging on the place, and would supposedly net my dad beau coup dollar signs.

After the demolishing around the driveway I was too broken to care if they took trees from the top of the hill. Hell, there's plenty of trees up there. Let 'em get lost in there!

My biggest worry was them getting near the creeks, especially the main one. There are 3 creeks around the hill, the biggest being about a 1000' away from the house.

In the early Oughts we had loggers here and they did make their way to the main creek, though just barely. However, they still managed to take out the "Spring Tree", a hude (apparently hollow) oak that grew right on the bank of the creek and had water drickling out from beneth it. The thing must've acted as a natural water tower.

Today, I visited the main creek, and oh hell is it trashed.

1.There was this nice flat wide (only about 10') spot with the banks about a foot higher than the flat rocky bottom (it's a shallow creek), with cedars at the edge at an even spacing leaning toward the stream at about 10deg, giving the appearance of a viewing area.

2.Near the junction of two tributaries was this old wide cedar that I refered to as Old Man Cedar. I had imagined it was like Treebeard and could communicate with other cedars through its connection to the Earth.

3.Right by a smaller tributary, I have a little ring of rocks - almost a fire pit but mostly just to mark the spot - under another shady place that has a good view of the main branch.

All are now completely violated. It looked like the loggers had been having fun with the destruction. Like it was a game to them.

Oh, and we are sooo totally being ripped off. The last payment was about a month ago, and it was less than $45. I knew it was gonna be bad when I could hear coins in the envelope. My dad is far too nice and trusting to outsiders.

I seriously don't know why I'm still here.

This is why we do so much of the work on our property ourselves, even to the point of taking on huge projects. I still prefer that to letting people on my property. Just violates the feel of the place...

This one always cracks me up. So gorram true.
