And third... give it time.
Euro-socialist? Whatever you think of our policies, they contributed to us remaining one of the few countries to continue with reasonable levels of growth throughout the GFC, and our budget is more often than not in suplus. And we spent our way out of the GFC, rather than slash spending and jobs like Euro countries.
So stick that it your hard capitalist pipe and smoke it.
I predict the end of the world is not nigh, for neither country.

Thanks Mr. Auraptor, I needed a good hearty laugh out loud.

Come to think of it, that does sound like the Republicans.
Just too funny................ha ha ha ha ha!
Seriously, the crap they were talking over at Fox & Friends was so desperate, that's what convinced me that Obama would win. They were sweating bullets over there.
But what caught me off guard was how much they whined when it was apparent that the president had won. They were actually believing their own BS.
Rove went ballistic! They were almost ready to claim cheating on Obama's campaign.
Bill O'Reilly was claiming the death of White America. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. We only want "stuff & things" handed to us. Racist and prejudicial is an understatement. Now I know what Chuck Norris meant by "1000 years of darkness" - these guys are ready to slit their own throats, rather than roll up their sleeves and work with the president. But I know it's all about power. The rich white dudes want to control everything, they want to gather all the toys in their corner and let no one else play with them.
These rich white dudes can be melodramatic at times.
SGG

Pretty sure that was aimed at Rappy.
Every time anyone points out that "euro-style socialism" hasn't been the death of this country or that (Germany seems quite strong, too, doesn't it?), the tired old response is the same: "Give it time."
It's the same thing we hear from them in support of deregulation and trickle-down economics when we point out that they have not worked: "Give it time."
Euro-style socialism has been in place for quite a while now, and it seems to be working quite well in many places. Trickle-down, supply-side, unregulated free-market capitalism hasn't worked nearly as well.
"I supported Bush in 2000 and 2004 and intellegence [sic] had very little to do with that decision." - Hero
"I was wrong" - Hero, 2012
Mitt Romney, introducing his running mate: "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan!"
Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

Yup, Shiny, I heard all the same stuff. It's pretty pathetic, isn't it? Never seen such sore losers..."We're gonna run away!", "We're gonna riot!", "We're gonna secede!", "We're gonna overthrow the government!" all because their guy lost.
And yes, Rap's reactions, euro-socialism, carbon tax, they're all of a piece with the rest of it, sadly. Bear in mind the only places he gets his "information" from are FauxNews and right-wing radio--exactly the same places all the rest of them get their "news" from, so their reaction really shouldn't surprise anyone.
Things have changed in America. Not for the better.
Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

I love it, Penguin! Reading that makes me feel like I should move to Australia...seems like a much healthier mentality than we're suffering here. Unfortunately, unlike our extreme right wingers who are threatening to leave, I love my country too much to cut and run, I'd rather stay and try to make it a BETTER country. More fool me, perhaps, given the way things have been going and I have little doubt will continue to go...

There is a lot to love about Australia. But we are part of global phenomenums and unfortunately we often look to America as an example of how to be a great country. Our parties have moved to the right as well in recent years, and we have our ugly right winged media commentators as well (and a few more sensible ones).
I think its good to get a bit of perspective. America may be struggling economically, but so is much the western world. Those peaks and troughs are often despite government intervention, rather than because of...
I'd say hang in there, and wait for me to visit y'all ;)
