TWITCHFILM.COM - Marvel announced at New York Comic-Con yesterday that Clark Gregg will be reprising his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson in its new TV pilot for ABC. The character has proved immensely popular with audiences following his appearances in Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Thor, leading to a beefed-up part in this summer's The Avengers...

I'm sure the author of the article is just speculating when he says this will take place before Avengers, but why is everyone in this thread speculating that this will take place after Avengers? Just seems odd that no one is agreeing with the author of the article.

Personally I don't like either option. I think having SHIELD set before Avengers will be a continuity nightmare and will hold the show back. However, reviving Coulson seems like a mistake to me. He was just a regular old human. That's part of his charm. Bringing him back from a stabbing like that seems incredibly unlikely. It's going to be a tough sell.

Well, we only have Nick Fury's word that Coulson actually died.

There is some evidence that he may not have been entirely honest.

Gave a lot of thought to that today...For the younger gen that mostly has problems with authority figures, they picked the right guy for the part. I can't think of a male actor who could do disarming as well as he does. The guy has a face of a saint. You kinda want him to win at whatever he's doing, just because he seems so nice. To have that kind of automatic rapport with an audience is hard to build. Joss is smart to bring him back in....
