Yes? and if so , to what capacity? I know that the suits at 'versal held some sway over Joss as to who he could bring aboard to help write. Does that mean we will lose our theme song too?
Need the info.

I was pretty disappointed when the theme music to MST3K wasn't in THAT movie. Not sure how I feel about the Balad of Serenity. I'm thinking maybe I'd just like to hear an instrumental of it over the opening credits. I don't know. Tricky subject.

I have no idea what the pace of the movie will be (if there will be interludes of relative calm or if it will be full throttle). That said, I would love to see a scene like the party at the beginning of Our Mrs. Reynolds. As the party is dying down all the BDHs are relaxing (Wash and Zoe in cuddly pose naturally) and a balladeer starts up with the theme song. Jayne stirs from his drunken stupor and starts to say somthing like, "I know a better song that they sing on Canton." At which point everyone else says, "NO." Jayne lays back down mumbling, "Living legend needs..." and passes out.
I shaved off my beard for you, devil woman!

Soup - hey, I like the sounds of that. Did you by chance get a peek at the script ?
Not sure if /where the BoS would fit in the BDM, but if things work out, we'll have 2 more movies where it could work its self in.
haaa haaa... "living legend.... "

The BoS at a shindig sounds good, myself I'd like to see a bar scene with a balladeer and the BoS is a signal to the BDH as to their contact for the next job....
here's hoping...

Why can't it be the movie's opening theme?
I want it to be there! What's up with that?

Remember how long it took you to love that song - Episode 3 at least - in a movie they've only one shot.
So I don't want it to open the movie so much just because it'll be off putting to a larger audience.
What I'd like would be for it to close the film - you know Mal's saved River from the Reavers and Blue Sun - he makes a joke in a low angel BDH shot and just then the guitar riff kicks in and we hit the credits! - That way the fans are super happy and the non-fans don't notice anything - they're walking out the door hoping there's not a line in the restroom!

but it is a different dynamic:
it doesn't take much for a TV viewer to start surfing,
but anyone who sits down in a movie theater isn't going to leave because of the theme song,
they'll give it a better shot than that.
Besides, I want my beloved 'Ballad of Serenity' in the movie!

I agree with you Embers, I would like the ballad to be in the opening. I like the idea of it being an instrumental only, but not as much as I like the idea of the whole song there.

I think it extremely unlikely that the full version would be in there. Instrumental, maybe... but as a rule, TV themes don't make it anywhere near theatrical releases. Look at "Star Trek", "The Saint", and others that have successfully or not so successfully made the transition.
The original theme song was solid for the show because it introduced the curious TV watcher to the background and flavor of the show right after the teaser. Joss has got to have more in there, cinematically speaking, than just a brief intro of characters with a theme song. I'm willing to bet that he does, and personally I'd be content with the characters and flavor preserved. Firefly is not just an intro theme song. Why pander to that?
