Keep in mind that what you are taping from the tv is NOT THE COMPLETE EPISODE! Whenever I watch Buffy or Angel episodes on tv and then see the same episodes on dvd (or vice versa) I always notice lines, and sometimes entire short scenes, that have been cut out on tv to make room for more commercial time. The only way to see the ENTIRETY of all Buffy and Angel episodes is to watch the dvds. And this is not a trivial thing. Some of the lines they cut on tv are either funny or important to the story - but you'll only see them on the dvd.

i know. :( right now, i think i am happy just getting to know the basic story for the moment.

I'm glad you mentioned that. You beat me to the punch. I can hardly stand watching those eps on TV for the commercials and more so because of how much they cut out. They cut out some of my favorite lines in some of those eps.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Are you kidding? The Jasmine episodes almost succeed in saving a poor season. See the 'Angel S4 Opinions' thread...

Hey Grounded, is that sarcasm? Cause I thought you hated the Jasmine story arc.

Personally what I hated was the Ats S4 story arc w/Cordy going evil & sleeping w/Connor (still makes me shudder...)
but Gina Torres showing up was DEFINITELY a big improvement (along with wonderful appearances by Faith & Willow)

I know a lot of people had a problem with Cordy and Connor hooking up. Considering the context of events that were happening at that time on the show, I did not have a problem with it. The Beast & Master arranged for fire to rain down from the sky to make the gang think that the End might be near. Also, Cordy was already being subliminally influenced by the Master into doing things that she might not ordinarily do. And after all, Connor's sole purpose for being born was to one day have sex with Cordy to bring about The Devourer. I admit that before I found out the details toward the end of the season I was wondering what the hell they were up to with that part of the arc. Once I saw all of the eps a couple of times, it made sense to me at least.

Exactly! That's why it's so necessary to buy the dvds. Some of the lines that are cut on tv are so good that you really don't get as much out of the episode without them.

Ah, sorry for the confusion. No it wasn't sarcasm. I hated S4 as a whole - I thought the Jasmine arc was a decent attempt at forming something coherent from the ruins ;)

you guys are all such a big tease.

i have a $25 gift certificate to amazon.com and i have been thinking about what to get. i have seriously considered getting some complete seasons, but i am still undecided. still, taping them is fun. it gives me something to look forward to each day, plus, if i had a complete season on dvd, i probably would not move from the couch for the entire 22 hours or whatever it runs in total length. given that i am not a very sedentary person, i think that might be a bad idea. when i first got my firefly dvd set, i watched almost half the episodes back to back to back etc...

since i started buying dvds of whole seasons i have the same kind of problem...i buy a dvd season, i get insomnia from watching all day and all night...and then i have to go thru all the special features...

Funny! I also have a tendency to watch whole seasons in about 2 sittings when I get a new set. At least this has held true for all my Buffy and Angel DVD's. Firefly, I watched in one sitting. Just don't want to turn off the DVD player.

Now, after I watch them the first time, I go through and watch them all again, but slightly slower. And then again with commentaries... and so forth.
