I'm hailing you from Kristiansand, Norway, and wonder if there are any other Scandinavians hanging out here on this site? I know you exist, 'cause I bump into you in the strangest places, but I would like to know if anyone else is as obsessed with this show as I am :) If so, gi lyd fra dere :)

A Mar a chara! Happy to see you here on the discussion boards! I'm not the Scandanavian browncoat you seek but I think its cool that you're posting here and heartily encourage you to continue because I think you're cool.

Look on the "Oh god oh god we're all going to dine" thread that I bumped up and there's a guy named "CDable" I think...click on his name and you should be able to instant message him!
Let me know if that works for ya

Great to hear from a fellow Norwegian :)
I'm dreaming of a Scandinavian shindig some time in the future. The Viking batallion :) (I bet they did some damage during the war).
And Riona thinks I'm cool, that's gotta count for something, right?

Hey, I've even found Firefly fanfic in Norwegian. I know you're out there ;)
And, yes, Joss-speak in Norwegian sounds just as weird as one would imagine.

There was a battalion of Norwegians who played a key (and not much discussed)role in stopping the late 1944 German offensive in Belgium (the Battle of the Bulge). The Norwegians were older guys who got out of Norway (or were already living overseas) and wanted to fight. The Americans (who had plenty of Norwegians, many who still spoke Norwegian) equipped and trained the Norwegian battalion and sent them in after D-Day. The Norwegian Battalion just happened to be sitting near the area where the Germans attacked the week before Christmas. The Norwegians got their chance to fight as part of a US Armored division that fought the Germans to a standstill on the north shoulder of the "bulge" the German offensive temporarily formed. Was this the same as the Viking Battalion. One of my older kin was from a Norwegian family and knew other Norwegian-Americans who could speak better Norwegian who got to work with the Norwegian battalion during some training. Apparently there were plans to use this battalion for an invasion of Norway or just raids, but that never happened and they ended up killing Nazis in Belgium.

Wow, that was, to quote Kaylee, "so historical" :)
There was also the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking - Scandinavian volunteers fighting for the other side.
I imagine the Browncoat Vikting Batallion would consist of soldiers from the planets and moons orbiting the brown dwarf/protostar Himinbjorg (according to the Verse in Numbers) ;)
