After watching "War Stories" I have to say that Summer may be my fav actor on the show. She manages to take a very hard role and make river so vulnerable and sweet. When she was talking about apple bits my heart almost broke for her.

I hated River at first, but Joss got me again and now I see the plot behind her impossible behavior..and I love her.
Really I first loved her in Shendig (wait, was it in Shendig? not sure) when she affected that GREAT cockney dialect and attitude. Glau is amazing.

I'd have to agree, River is and has always been my favorite character. It's not that she's got incredible powers (which she does) or have strong force of will (which she doesn't) but rather the complete vulnerability that she has. Added to that, she has such a fresh view on everything and yet, has the knowledge which keeps her from being utterly naive like Kaylee sometimes is. "They weren't cows inside, but when they saw the sky they remembered who they were."
I think River is one of the best made "troubled" characters I've ever seen. And Summer does an excellent job portraying her. I am understandably biased for a reason, but I still think River is the best character.

I have a working theory about River. My theory is that every word she says makes perfect sense. We, as viewers, might just not have enough context to understand her all the time. Yeah I agree definitely. It wasn't until the Christmas line that she said to Jayne (Ariel) where I realized that a lot of the stuff she says has meaning.

I don't have a lot of time these days so I hope someone who has the scripts will come around to making a list of River quotes for each episode.

BTW, she now is my favorite FF character too.

Watch her close. Pay attention to everything she does and says.

I'm sure she has a lot more surprises up her sleeves( and anywhere else she has hidden them).

I hear her voice in my sleep.

There were a couple of lines that stood out in her War Stories scene with Simon -

She told Simon that when she was feeling well that she "heard with my ears" (meaning that when she's "in chaos" she hears things other than with her ears?)

Then she says "I hate it because I know it will go away. The sun grows dark (Blue Sun?) and choas has come again."
