For Raptor: Huskies at the Ponds

Been looking and looking for this one, and finally found it. This is a video of and by Ed Schreiber, one of the people with BAM that we run with. He's scootering what I'm always referring to as The Ponds--the Las Gallinas Reclamation Ponds near where we live.

He's running two of their six dogs, Goose and Diego. Diego is their one Malamute (the dark one), and Goose is their husky/wolf cross, the one that hates my Kochak and goes after her. Goose and Diego are their "power dogs", the biggest, strongest and most...uh..."energetic", so Ed runs them on their own--when he turns around to check on Andree, you can ALMOST see her in the far distance with the other dogs.

Anyway, this is where we run...it's three different ponds with trails around and between them; the ponds are fantastic for migratory bird watching in season, there's a coyote regular out there (I put up video stills of him in an RWED post if you remember), and we just discovered there's a skunk regular, too! The dogs caught his scent a while ago and I got a good run out of them, but this morning he popped up RIGHT in front of us, dammit (we go just at dawn). Ended up with the dogs taking off, he crossed the trail in front of us and hit the brush...and so did we. Dogs tangled, sulky askew--nothing harmed except I've got a sprained foot out of it and the lingering odor of....uh, shall we say "musk". It's on me, I can detect it, and has been all day...thank gawd, only lightly!

Anyway, I thought you might get a kick out of this, it'll show you how fast we SOMETIMES go (this fast, only when we're with the other Bay Area Mushers, my Jim's ahead of us on his bicycle, or we flush the local coyote...or skunk! My dogs are much more the speed of the ones Andree is running in the video).

Here's one of our BAMmers running her dog up in Oregon...she paired her Nikita up with another team to run their ATV! Enthusiastic enough, do you think?

Oh, and this lady I met on one of our runs has a team of three BOSTON TERRIERS! (Who said you need huskies to mush??)


The sulky they're pulling is a similar model to mine, made by same guy in Australia
