EDIT: yes, I think the question referred to just to the first season, as well
Well, then that's a bit confusing, as we DID get the 1st season in with none of the main characters dying off. The BDM came 3 years later, so I guess I don't see what all the fuss is about.
So, Joss ISN'T saying he wouldn't have killed off any of the original crew, had the series gone one for another season? What ever, I fail to see, 10 years later, how this is suppose to be all that significant. Oh well.

For an American series on a major network, we only got two-thirds of a season. We never got the "back 9."
To repeat, the question was how the first season would have ended if Joss had known it would be the last Firefly we ever got. How would it had differed from the BDM? There is nothing in his statement that implies someone would not have died in any subsequent season.

Exactly.
Sorry to repeat the question, but does anyone know what guest actor was mean to the women on the show and Nathan had to stand up to him?

There's a slip of the tongue. ;)
I think Joss might've just been being a bit wistful. As much as he loves characters and actors, sometimes death is necessary for the story (or hell, for the character).

No name was mentioned, and I wouldn't even want to guess.

In the past when this story has been told they have been very careful to keep the reference vague so outside of the cast and crew and the offending party I suspect nobody will never know.
