gmail is Google's entry into Internet mail. It features 1GB of storage. One suspects that it is a quality service because of the Google 'brand' and the rabidity of ubergeeks to lay hands on an invite.
It is currently in beta and the only way to get the service is by invitation. Eventually it will go 'gold', and be available to the general public, presumably for free.
The downside is reportedly that gmail appends advertising similar to GoogleAds to the viewer window of your email, based on a keyword search of your correspondence. If, for instance, you were writing a letter to a friend asking them how their house hunting was going, you might get a Century21 ad along with your mail. On the other hand, you could also send your friend an SVCD ISO or BIN/CUE of your summer vacation as an attachment (~700MB) without a hiccup, or the need to "RAR & PAR" it into sub-10MB chunks. It's one of many things one can do with 1GB of online storage and no attachment limitation.

i know,, zoid. i have not had time to get the invites out yet. i will do it a little later this morning. had a minor crisis at home last night after getting home late from work. sorry about the delay.
