So most of us probably know that Sean came out this last year. I was wondering if Joss would have modified the story and have Simon turn out to be gay also. Is this part of the reason he's so uncomfortable with Kaylee's advances? Does he go along with accepting and reciprocating her advances out of concern that the crew would side with Kaylee and kick him off the ship if he upset her?

In the case of Sean, he was gay but didn't mention it for a long period of time. But gay men have played straight characters forever, there's no telling what was in store for Simon. It was more like he was so wrapped up in his career that he didn't think much about sex with either gender.

I don't see any evidence to suggest that he is. The actor being sly doesn't mean the charactor is. But I'm someone who believes in serious seperation between actor and charactor, they are two different entities which are linked due to portrayal but don't define each other. Likely the charactor of Simon was created before an actor was found to portray him. Its true that there's no evidence that he _isn't, but since there's no evidence that he is I don't see a need to assume.
