Ship Technology, any Science on the works?

What is the technology behind how things work on the Ship? I heard reference to nuclear power. Is it fission, fusion or something not discovered yet? What are the physics based on? A future development of Lifter technology combined with Cold Fusion?

I think what we need is a Nuclear Engine that works on electron following protons as the are spuied out of the reaction. The proton loop is a few centermeter in diameter and attracts electrons to generate electro motor force (EMF) this provideds electrical power for the EPS grid.

Of course there is standard propulsion power with thrusters for on planet manouvering, but then there is Ionoic thrusters for space propulsion.

These are some of my thoughts. Any others?
