As Chicago residents face a murder rate that, thus far this year, is worse than U.S. troops in Afghanistan, the Chicago Police Department has assigned at least 100 officers to secure the wedding of White House advisor Valerie Jarrett's daughter.
President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughters Malia and Sasha arrived in Chicago Friday evening ahead of the Saturday wedding of Laura Jarrett, which will be held in a backyard in the city's Kenwood neighborhood. And that wedding is, expectedly, set to be a high-security affair.
The Chicago Sun-Times' Michael Sneed reports that between 100 and 200 Chicago police officers will be on site to help "secure the perimeter" of the wedding.
Sneed further reports that the city will not be reimbursed for the police security by the federal government.
The directive for police to cover the Jarrett wedding arrives at a time where Chicago is facing a surge in its homicide rate. The Daily pointed out in a Friday column that more Chicago residents -- 228 -- have been killed so far this year in the city than the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan - 144 -- over the same period.
The war zone-like statistics are not new. As WBEZ reports, while some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gun fire in Chicago during that time, based on Department of Defense and FBI data.
Spin, boy, SPIN!
Good troll.

Hello,
This comparison is strange, and it makes weird conclusions.
Chicago has 29 times the population of Americans but less than 2 times the murders. Chicago is safer for Americans than Afghanistan in terms of murder rate.
But what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Ah, but that's the exact comparison that 1Kiki used to start this thread.

Or are you saying that Kiki's comparison is valid and mine is not?
I'm not sure where Kiki was going with this. Comparing a democratically controlled city that is chronically pointed out as a failure of policy, with another democratically controlled city in another part of the country, to prove, what?

Is it? I don't see where Kiki referenced the number of American troops killed in Atlanta or Chicago anywhere in the initial post that started this thread.
How many U.S. troops were killed in Chicago during the timeframe you're trying to compare?

Hello,
No, it's not. She made a very different comparison.

I don't know if you remember, but I agreed that Kiki's comparison was logically flawed for its purpose. (Though not as flawed as the article's comparison in the material you quoted, which was not even factually correct in that it suggested a lower Afghanistan murder rate in contravention of the facts.)

You seem to be regressing to an earlier point in this conversation. This material has already been covered. Or are you trying to 'rub it in'?
Kiki made a pointless comparison. You just recently made a similarly pointless comparison of your own. Neither comparison illustrated what the publisher hoped.
I believe you'll find that I have already shown that political party is clearly not the primary cause of violence by illustrating cities which are Democratically controlled and low-violence. This would not be possible if Democratic control resulted in high violence. There are clearly other factors at work.

Anthony,
Would you care to review your findings with the added data point of legislative or enforcement gun control? I can point you to similar persecution of lawful firearms ownership in Philadelphia.

Hello,
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.
Are you asking whether gun control affects crime, or whether lawful firearms owners are persecuted?

Hey Trollbago,
Care to answer the question, or are you a coward?
How many U.S. troops were killed in Chicago during the timeframe you're trying to compare?
After all, YOU brought up troops killed in Afghanistan, did you not? So compare troops to troops, or people to people.
I know you're trying to paint Chicago as some kind of lawless wasteland (hence the question of where one would rather spend time, Chicago or Afghanistan. I'll gladly take Chicago, thanks!), and in your desperation you're casting about looking for ANYTHING that will allow you to spin your story to cast Chicago in a negative light, but the rest of us aren't willing to accept your methodology or your basic premise, because you've been shown time and again to be using faulty "facts" and false logic in trying to spin your stories.
So answer the question:

Hello Mike,
No need to narrow the criteria further. The premise is already critically flawed even if you count all Americans in the areas under discussion.

Guess the troll bitched out of this thread because he can't answer.
Can't say I'm surprised.
