Chicago keeps getting portrayed on this board by certain people with an ax to grind as if it's an ultra-violent product of decades Democratic (the party) rule. Those corrupt librul' mobster-union Obama-loving thugs!
So I just started looking around at other cities in the FBI Uniform Crime report. It turns out that Chicago is not so violent after all. I took a look at fairly large cities (the dynamics are different than small cities), took out the ones people THINK of as violent (Los Angeles - gangs), Phoenix (drug cartels), Alabama (racial distribution) ... etc ... and settled on what most people think of as a sedate, prosperous, conservative city - Atlanta. Despite its reputation and pedigree, it's more murderous than that supposedly ultra-violent den of iniquity Chicago.

I'm flabbergasted that someone would pick a violent city and arbitrarily blame the Democrats for it. I wonder if Democrats get credit for their good cities? Or Republicans for their bad?
I think any reasonable intellect would concede that there is more going on with crime than merely the prevailing political party. Otherwise these same dull critics would be hailing some of the most oppressive regimes on Earth as having solved the secret to crime control.
