Really good article. Thanks for posting. The movie was riveting. Great storytelling's and beautiful to look at. Not a masterpiece just chapter 1 of it.

Hey Haken run. Don't walk to the theatre. Excellent great story. Solid acting. Beautifully filmed (saw it in 3d). New heroine. Prometheus.

Where do I start?

Okay. It was bad. I'm not sure how bad. Maybe IMDb I would have to go with, objectively a 5.6, but I might vote lower because of my intense disappointment.

What I didn't like:

If you're going to spend that much on special effects, at least wait for there to be a decent story underneath. The writing here is just blatantly bad. Not Star Wars Ep. 3 bad or Indiana Jones Crystal Skull bad, but bad. Characters are in no way consistent with their own behavior, the story doesn't fulfill any of its promised to the audience, and there are no twists at all.

minor character inconstancies, but this story abounded with this stuff to the point that there weren't really characters outside of the main ripleyoid

Panicky guys, see a dead human body and they run like sissies. Okay, that's believable, someone might do that, even tough guys. Then they meet an alien and start playing with it like a pet. That's not remotely the same guys who just ran from the body.

Ice queen is the super in command robot-like mystery of a…ooh black guy! how quick can I get my panties off for him!

I'm an ancient alien, last of my kind, things went terribly wrong, and we want to kill humanity and start over. Except there's just me and now I'm just going to give my life destroying humanity even though there's no more of my race, and oh wait, there are other humans, and I'm a super intellect of the universe, I must share, no, wait, Hulk Kill! I can crush puny humans. Me dumb. I kill self now. Every die.

I'm a trillionaire old dude. You think I'm a naive bat, and I'm just going to wander out onto this planet and die. Yup, that's what I'm going to do. You know, I know that it's not storytelling, because there would be no point to telling a story thread where nothing unexpected happens because your imagination could just fill in the whole story element with just a casual mention of its existence if nothing was going to happen, just like we didn't tell you the tale of the creation of this starship because it just came down to "some trillionaire hired a bunch of guys and they built a spaceship, there wasn't really a story there." Well, now I'm stowing away on your ship passing secret messages and y'all think I'm dead, but I actually have nothing up my sleeve. There wasn't really a story there either.

It's a giant donut rolling on edge. A rabbit could figure out that he has to run sideways. What is the IQ of a rabbit. We're scientists here. We dumb. Maybe if we don't get squashed by this donut someday we can have our own empire so we can meet the peons and then just oh fuck it, Hulk smash stuff!

He's contaminated, and you're not letting him back on the ship? Why that's so evil, it's like exactly what Ripley does in the beginning of the first alien movie which you made yourself mr. scott. I don't know how you mixed up your heroes and villains, maybe you never read the screenplay, IDK.

Scientists throughout the movie say some really dumb things like god doesn't build straight lines. Actually, the science is as bad as any hollywood movie, the only problem in that for prometheus is that it's so dependent on its science.

This time I agree more with Dreamtrove than I do ShinyGoodGuy. No one is more disappointed about this than I am. I consider Scott's Blade Runner to be one of the best SF films ever made, and while Alien is more of a horror film in SF clothing, it is still the best film in the franchise so far.

Good thing I only paid matinee price, and for the 2D showing at that. I'm also glad I stayed as spoiler free about it as possible, or else I might have been even more disappointed.

I tend to read a lot of spoilers, so it's pretty rare for me to go into a movie with very little idea of what to expect. Before seeing Prometheus, however, I did check the overall movie ratings and saw that they were kinda low. Point is this: I went in with low expectations.

The first half was promising enough. Nothing amazing. Nothing we haven't seen before in some form or another (well, okay, some interesting visuals), but all in all pretty solid. Maybe a few inconsistencies, but nothing to destroy my enjoyment of the flick.

As we reached the second half, though, the silliness started to escalate, particularly around poor characters decisions, inconsistent characterization, seemingly random and pointless actions, and events and decisions that seem to exist only to achieve a particular effect. At this point, though, I thought it was still somewhat enjoyable, although given the amount of talent and money this movie had access to, there was no excuse for the ham-handed writing.

Then we get to the third act (the last quarter of the movie). I remember seeing "Sphere" many years ago and saying that it wasn't that bad until you got to the ending, and which point the ending did more than fall apart: it shredded. I might take that one step further here, to say that the story vaporizes in the third act--which is not to say that there aren't still some interesting ideas and amazing visuals, just that the cohesion and pacing is virtually nonexistent after a certain point.

So, in the end, for me, a huge disappointment, although it's probably not the worst movie I've seen this year. There are a lot of great movies out there, but also a lot of flicks of the other kind, too.

Yeah, I'm not that interested in the Aliens franchise in general, but Prometheus kinda looked bad from the beginning. I've had to listen to one of my friends who is into the franchise and his repeated disappointment over both the more recent movies and the video games, made me think that they've pretty much tapped out the potential of the storylines. And when you can have a trailer for an Alien movie and not even SEE any xenomorphs, something is probably wrong. I'd completely forgotten it was supposed to be an Alien movie until my brother was talking about it and reminded me a few days ago.

Glad I didn't go see this with my friends. Once I saw that Damon Lindelof co-wrote it I knew it wasn't for me. Then I started to see the spoiler articles about what this or that loose end or unexplained nonsense might be. Just more of the same magic that made Lost total BS. That guy couldn't write a story with an actual ending to save his life.

Well, bummer. Please tell me it at least watchable over lets say 3 or Resurrection.

Theron, Fassbender, Elba are proven, talented actors in my mind. Did they (in particular) do a bad job or was the writing/plot just that bad? (all i've read points to this)

The acting and visuals were wonderful, but the further along in the story, the harder it was to suspend my disbelief in the writing.

You can believe Jayne standing on his bad leg with a great big hole punched straight through and fighting Reavers that speared and reeled him in to be skinned and filleted. But you might not believe that Elizabeth in Prometheus can run and leap over the pit-of-doom only minutes after
