From director Jon Favreau ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") and the fertile imaginations of J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke ("Supernatural"), comes a surprising "what if" action-adventure series, where an unlikely hero will lead the world out of the dark. Literally.

It looks interesting.

It looks a lot like TNT's 'Falling Skies,' except no aliens. FWIW, it wasn't half bad for what it is. Season 2 starts this Summer.

Since Terra Nova and Alcatraz were canceled, i don't watch sci-fi on tv anymore (except Syfy's Alphas with Summer Glau); i will take a look at this one.

I have seen all the released scenes (they were on Hitfix). I like the pedigree of the creators.
But one thing bothers me. “the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages”. Why?
If all the electricity went out, the world would not be thrust back into the dark ages but rather the late 19th century. Yeah I know they’re using a play on words, and do not mean the actual Dark Ages.
However, the main action takes place 15 years after the lights go out. Without electricity, you would still have steam power. That would mean you could still have locomotives and steamships. You could still have factories. You could still have construction. With 21st century know how, I’m sure that they could create smaller and more efficient steam engines, likely running on gasoline.
Also, they show horses being used again. I’m sure that would happen, but what about bicycles? Two characters appear to be walking to Chicago, from what appears to be the east coast. Without cars, the roadways should still be in decent shape, so biking should be popular.
I’m going to watch, but it’s things like that which will bug me.

I'm looking forward to what kind of technobabble they use to explain that "electricity doesn't work anymore." Animals run on internally generated electricity. I guess there must be a certain amount of electrical activity still working otherwise everyone would be dead. Hey, maybe there's a vampire/zombie angle they're saving, as a surprise.

One should also note that mid-19th century telegraph systems were run using crude batteries. That said, it would have been possible to use all that fiber optic cable to rig a light driven telegraph. And all those dead motor vehicles could be stripped down to the frame and wheels to provide an excellent horse drawn wagon. I wonder if stuff like this will be ignored.
