The Avengers: My Review - Non-spoiler and spoilered stuff.

Saw the 3D version. No problem with it, but definitely not on level uv the 3D in Avatar. Aside frum sum uv the computer cartoon moviez, are there any other truly 3D moviez?
The movie iz great! After 4 yirz uv bild up, I wuz afraid nobody woud be able to make it live up to expectationz. Joss did not disappoint!
I'm going to see it again in 2D during the week.
Wishimay, I recommend seeing the previous moviez first. Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Hulk, Captain America and Thor. I watched them all a week ago, plus the underrated first version uv Hulk with Eric Bana.
And in case you dont know already, sit thru the credits, they all hav a little scene afterward, including Avengerz.

I'm one of those people that don't hail Joss. To be honest I believe that he is brilliant, but has a pathological need to sabotage himself, which is why fans are treated to things like having a truly beloved character randomly impaled while speaking his new catchphrase. I'm glad that we'll never get any more Firefly because of this. I will also never forgive him for Season 4 of Angel.
This is why I was so happy when I found out that he was doing the Avengers - he's playing with someone elses toys which means he's not allowed to break them.
I'm a big fan of his run on Astonishing X Men. He's the first to write Scott and Logan right as characters and I knew he'd bring that same thing to this. Take Cap, in this he's very much a member of the WW2 generation - trusting of authority, quick to jump in, and always about fair fights. I also liked that Cap has obviously been reading up on history and has a barely concealed bitterness about him now that has everything to do with how the world turned out. It's all there in a brief exchange with Fury, lots of subtext. But even with all that, he's still the last to figure out that Fury is hiding things. Joss proves that he has as good a grasp on every one of the other characters as he has with Cap, and that's why it all works.
As far as the movie itself goes, I think that it's likely going to set the new ticket sales record. More importantly is that I think that it may in fact get a best picture nomination because it's just so darn well put together. There isn't a single wasted moment in the whole film and every single one of the characters gets their chance to shine that is distinct, that is perfectly in character in each instance. He didn't even do an extended title sequence, just flashed "Avengers" on screen and got right back to the story.
And most definitely, sit through the credits.

You know that blond girl that recognized Cap when he was unmasked? Pretty sure we're going to see her again. If I'm right her name is Sharon.
Even the opening titles are put off until the end of the film when they are then used to set up the next villain for Avengers 2, and if you think that the scale of this film was rather epic, wait until you get to meet Thanos.

I didn't exactly have high hopes for this movie (thought Thor was an embarrassment and Iron Man 2 was straight up demeaning--double slow motion ass cam, really? Really??), but I did hope that Joss finally had a big success so he could get the respect he deserved, get happy and no longer feel the need to pointlessly kill off his characters as the ruling metaphor of his creative career.
So, yay, the movie was lots of fun! I've always believed that straight superhero movies (as opposed to revisionist meditations on dark Jungian psych) need to be funny. Not just Arnold Schwarzenegger quippy, but really funny. Think Gene Hackman in Superman: the Movie. This was funny and smart and Joss juggled his many responsibilities very well, even fitting in some lovely sermons on the nature of evil and how to face tyranny.
If I were looking for the person to direct Hunger Games 2, I'd have found him after this weekend. 
Biggest surprise of the evening? Loki's endlessly badass outfit. That coat, with all its gold metal fittings was gorgeous. Even his armored gold bug version was bizarre and scary instead of silly (*cough* freakin' Thor I'm looking at you *cough* never thought I'd see superhero costumes that out-tackied the Schumacher nippled chest piece, but Ken Branagh proved me wrong).
Loved the handling of BW and "the Hawk." Did anyone else get a huge Mulder/Scully vibe off that duo? Can you just see the remake staring these two? Slightly more...action oriented, of course. Loved the first few appearances of the Hulk, how the camera could barely keep him in frame while everyone freaked the hell out. Banner's secret was clever, thought provoking and integral to the plot all at the same time.
I thought the bad guys were suitably frightening and, contrary to early reports, could actually shoot straight and hit their targets. Good times. And, me, I vote for 3d. The fight in midtown was much clearer in 3d than in 2d and the armored levitating whales were pretty awesome 3d-ified.

Fury already 'lied' on the trading cards being in Coulson's jacket pocket. They weren't. Was that even real blood on them ?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love him to have survived. But same goes w/ Wash. Who also got ran completely through, and died. Which reminds me, so did Mal, but he lived. Of course, that through and through was underplayed in the final version. It was was much worse in the early ,sneak peak version.
One of my pet peeves that I have w/ Joss, is how certain folks, non super hero types, get horrific injuries, and some how survive. Not only survive, but are able to carry on, and 'shake it off', until the bad guy is beaten, the signal is sent, or some such.

Agreed. I think it was Ashley Johnson. She's also in Joss' Much Ado About Nothing. I'm guessing he's a fan. Probably setting things up for her to have a role in a sequel.

I think I was wrong about who she is. I went back to the flick with the same buddy I went with the first time, and he was busy looking for details this time around. He says he thinks her nametag read "Betty." The only thing I can thin of in that case would be the "Heroes Reborn" storyline from the 90's. It featured a teenaged girl becoming the new "Bucky," and you just know that has Joss written all over it.

I want time to play it's part and further viewings before I decide where it fits into my all-time faves list. It is certainly my fave comic book/superhero movie of the whole bunch released in the last few years. I don't count Nolan's Batman as 'comic book' or a superhero or that would be top for me.
Joss has made a truly excellent blockbuster movie that encapsulates all that is good about comic book movies and adds that layer of Jossness that we know from his other work. He has shown other filmmakers how it should be done.
So what were your fave bits/lines?

Black Widow faking it, TWICE! Hulk... smash. Puny God. The one way trip scene. Hulk sucker punching Thor. When Robert Downey Jr. spoke lines. Not much I DIDN'T like.
