“If a woman runs around and if a man runs around with her, both of them should be killed,” said Mr. Kadyrov, who often has stated his goal of making Chechnya “more Islamic than the Islamists.”

It IS scary, Riona. This isn't some wack-job , fringe sect of zealots, living in caves or what not. This is the President of a sovereign state, speaking out in favor of such barbaric activity.

And his stated goal ? To make Chechnya “more Islamic than the Islamists.”

Well, according to at least one Muslim cleric, husbands can off their dishonroable wives, and then commence on the post-living coitus, for the next 6 hours.

At least, I think I understand that correctly.

Not much of a selling point, but hey... it's something.

I wonder how sales of Viagra are in Muslim dominated counties. Hmmm. Might be a stock to look into.

And I lay good odds that the Religious Right here is not only drooling with envy, but actively and jealously pissed off that THEY can't do it here - as I say, not a dimes worth of difference between them.
Also worth a warning, cause American Corporations used to do the same isn't-it-horrible (that we can't do it!) kind of shuffle and jive while drooling over Fascism, and sure enough, given enough time....

Not a DIMES worth of difference.

Roight! We should invade them and try and make them like us. We could also spend trillions training some of their people to kill some of their other people, and once that cycle is self-sustaining we could leave! We got this one!

Yanno, this all started when we decided to cozy up to and support every regressive regime in the ME that would sell us their oil at cheap prices. Like the Saudis, who have funded madrasses and extremists all over the ME, such as the mujahideen in Afghanistan (via Pakistan). And then, we lean into it by deposing ever secular government we can find, starting with Afghanistan under the Soviets.

Yanno what? We should have let them have it. They were building roads, airports, and schools. They graduated women doctors and lawyers and professors, and were dragging the male population kicking and screaming into the 18th century.

But when it comes down to it, we'd rather have chaos and extremism than socialism and development any day, because socialists won't sell us their stuff cheap for American dollars. To this very day we promote fundamentalist tyrants as long as they play economic ball with our corporations and banks.

Expect more of the same, because our principles are unprincipled, and WE have a very real program against secularism.
