So we went on Sat. my dad was pretty excited about it. He thought it was fantastic. I thought it was allright, in the middle I was getting a little bored because too much was going on and I was getting confused. But the ending redeemed it for me, I really liked the ending. So I thought it was fairly good. We got trading cards with our tickets, anyone else? And my dad has been looking at his Dejah Thoris card a lot the last couple of days. :)

The director hated the trailers: “We shouldn’t be selling sci-fi and battles—I hate it when you’re selling a movie you don’t have. This feels just like ‘The Terminator,’ because every other action hero comes from this story. So our progenitor story feels derivative.” The director planned to emphasize the romance between John Carter and Princess Dejah Thoris of Mars: “It’s the ultimate Heathcliff and Cathy, because they’re even from different planets.” Disney's marketing wouldn't do it.
That sell never happened because it’s impossible for Disney to spend so much on toys—to lavishly and painstakingly build C.G.I. Tharks and Thoats and alien hovercraft—and then lay them aside and pitch their film as “The Notebook.”
The scope of what Disney thinks it can sell becomes narrower all the time. Less human, more comic-book and action heroic.

Two - He may have hated the trailers they wanted to release, but they might have actually gotten people to show up. As it stands, he personally approved all the existing trailers, which scuttled the movie.

Yeah, I'm so pissed about the dumbass marketing for this movie. All they had to do--ALL THEY HAD TO DO--was flash one word across the screen as often as possible in every trailer: PIXAR. Pixar director, Pixar writer, Pixar effects, Pixar, Pixar, Pixar! It's a Pixar movie, in terms of quality, storytelling, originality.
Turns out Stanton personally forbade them to mention Pixar.

It's really sounding like he killed the movie with adoration - he just assumed that everyone in the world was clamoring for a John Carter movie, and refused to actually "sell" the thing.

Quote:In Burroughs’s version all the Martian creatures communicated telepathically—that is, silently. Now add another masterstroke from Burroughs’s fevered brain: all the Martians were naked. How could that not work on billboards? “Nude. Silent. Mars. Coming soon from those nice people who brought you ‘The Little Mermaid.’ ”

....Jesus, I forgot what its like trying to talk to you.
I meant - WTF is YOUR point??
Do you really think even the writer of that article was totally serious? In what universe would ANY studio put that much money into a movie where everyone was nude? Much less Disney. Its idiotic.
