I really hope this is true (I'm not saying it isn't, by the way). Joss would do a great job with X-men 3. At last, we'll have an X-men fan heading the franchise. Plus, I'm sure it would be a dream come true for Joss. It shouldn't interfere with him making the serenity movies, he's shown he can do a lot in a short space of time. Does this guy ever rest?

That's our Joss, a regular renaissance man!

no kidding. and it always amazes me that so many around here are so quick to write off something as "not true". debate the pluses & minuses sure, but not every piece of news is automatically wrong until you see it written in blood from joss. lighten up.

I actually don't want Joss to do X-men 3. It is my opinion, he should stick to things he created! He has been great with Firefly, Buffy, Angel.. so if he is to do something between Serenity and its sequels i would like to be a Buffyverse thing or something else he has yet to create!
X-men 3 should be for someone else.. I don't know who I would choose now that Singer is out, but while Joss would do a great job, i'd like him to stick with characters he created!

but maybe doing x3 would put him in a position to get backing to do more of his own stuff. as much as we love his work, he still needs to increase his clout withing the machine. few directors get to create, write and direct every project they do. and not being a buffy or angle fan, something with a broader appeal would be fine with me.

Yeah I see your point.. it would be good for Joss to get more backing and such. X-men 3 would be great for that, but we'll see what happens with Firefly.. he might get enough recognition from that. I would watch X-men 3, if he did it of course(it's Whedon so yeah), but its still my opinion that he would be better with characters he came up with rather than other peoples characters.

He helped create the first X-Men movie, so it isn't like he is unfamiliar with the franchise. Not much of his original script remained, but when it's there, it's there.
Personally, I want to see how Hallie Berry works with him after she screwed up one of his remaining lines and he referred to her delivery as doing "Desdemona".
I'd like to see him get his hands on Cyclops (then again I'd like to get my hands on Cyclops) and see him actually develop the character. I love Wolverine, but Cyclops isn't just a plot device and needs to shine more. Joss is great at balancing characters and having them all develop. Joss' understanding of the emotions of a scene would bring another level to the franchise.
And it is fitting, seeing as XMen is what screwed up Firefly in the first place.

I'm guessing that this is a rumour that has arisen from Joss getting the most number of votes in an online poll for who should write and direct X-Men 3.
I'm pretty sure that there is no deal yet for Joss to write and direct X-Men 3. Joss said recently that he hadn't even been approached for X-Men 3, but he would be interested in doing it if he was. My guess is that 20th Century Fox would take a look at a rough cut of Serenity before they offered him X-Men 3, which is how it is normally done.
I think we should take this with a grain of salt. Chances are if Fox wants to start work on X-Men 3 soon then they won’t choose Joss, because he will be committed to Serenity for the next nine months, doing post production and marketing.

Quickly put, since this is really complicated behind the scene Hollywood bullshit.
The guys that did the original X-Men were slated to write the new Battlestar Galactica series. Not the crap that appeared on Sci-Fi after they had to stop production right before filming started, but the true-to-canon one that was going to air on Fox.
As they were working on this, Fox went to Joss to see if he had any ideas. They were thinking Buffyverse, he was thinking all new universe. They were cool with this and said why don't you develop that and we'll see what happens.
Then 9/11 happened, shutting down production on Battlestar Galactica (like it did many shows temporarily). Problem was this put them behind schedule and that schedule was tight since they would be needed for X2 which was on a tight schedule because of actor availability. Fox decided to yank Battlestar Galactica. This gave them a hole in their schedule.
They go to Joss and say, that thing you are developing, start shooting. This sped things up a tad. When you hear the commentary about how rushed things were, such as what happened with the pilot, that is why. This is also why Firefly was marketed so badly. They were looking for a replacement for Battlestar Galactica.
It is amazing how things are connected. Filming X2 destroyed Battlestar Galactica, doomed Firefly, and negatively affected Buffy's final season. It is a miracle that Angel wasn't negatively affected, especially since Greenwalt had left and the show was without an helm because Tim Minear was needed for Firefly. It's a testament to Joss that he managed to put out quality shows under those conditions.
