I fill out all the required fields, paste my fic but when I click "post fanfiction" it won't post, it just goes to the top of the page I'm on. DOes anyone know why this is happening and how I fix it?

Worked out why. I need to post from the old site :)

Hmm. It may depend on how long it takes you to post, Fireflyfans has an automatic logout timer.

If that doesn't work, I'd try the beta site, all the functionality is in place and it's accessible from the main site.

I am encountering the same issue, perhaps it is a problem with the length of the fan-fic.
Is there some word count limit that I am not aware of? I am really anxious to post my own story...

Hi,

Is this happening on the beta site?

Also, if you're posting a lengthy piece, be sure to cut and paste it as opposed to typing in the piece live, because the site will timeout and you will lose your work.

How long do we have to post? Is it longer than 5 minutes, or do I have to plan on having my Writing pre-formatted. Also Im guessing from your post that there is no word count Limit, is this correct?

Also: if this is the Beta site than yes.
Thanks in advance, Penquin11

I think there might be an issue if the text is over 50,000 words, other than that, you're probably running into the time-out issue.

If I were you, and the text is really long and you're timing out before you post it, put all the html code, fonts and formatting into your working document before you copy it into the posting field.

Ok I dont mean to sound stupid but when you say 50,000 words do you actually mean 50,000 words or 50,000 characters.... This actually does matter in my case....

...Really?

I actually am not sure. Is there anyway you could split your story into sections? I know it's a pain, but at the same time, that much text all at once will scare off most of your readers anyway.

My advice is to prepare a "posting document" with all the parts you need laid out, then do a fresh login (to the old site, not the beta site) and copy and paste the pieces in. Takes some time on the prep work, but it's worth it.

Also, if your piece is 50,000 words, you'll definitely want to break it up into separate posts. 2000 to 5000 words is typically good for a single posting. It's also a courtesy to others who are posting, to space out your posts over time so that different people's fics get to occupy the top of the board.

For formatting advice (italics, mouse-overs, links, etc) go to Mal4prez's formatting thread. It has lots of useful tricks. (I will bump it.)

Keep in mind you can go back and edit your fanfic after posting, so it doesn't have to be perfect the first time.

Good luck! And have fun.
