Let me give you some advise from someone who's doing basically the same thing you're trying to do.

Here's the thing about, well, pretty much any endeavor. There are three things to choose from: Cheap, Fast, and Good. You only get two. If you want it cheap and fast, it won't be any good. If you want it fast and good, it ain't going to be cheap. So the only thing left for us independent film makers is cheap and good. Which means fast is out of the question.

Believe me, I know. I've been working on Freedom for a year and a half now. I managed to drum up a few hundred dollars from people, but that was it. The rest of the budget has been out of my own pocket, much to my wife's dismay.

Here's the thing, though. Look at The Guild. Their first season was incredibly low budget, but they put out consistent and entertaining episodes, so they built up an audience. They got themselves some sponsors, and now they can afford to keep going. Be awesome. Give us characters we care about, and stories that we follow all the way to the end. People will stand up and notice.

The Firefly fan film community is pretty tight knit. If you need some help or some guidance, we're here. Just ask.

Depending on where you are, there might even be government money/tax breaks in it. Ontario and BC have funds available for webseries and transmedia, if you know who to pitch to.

Yeah, right now we are applying to the government for a original film grant. There are no open grants going on at the moment, but when there is, we are applying.

I know it's going to take time and effort, all of us do. Right now our goal is to create the sets, get the cast, and create a 5 minute short to show people that we have what it takes, within a year. After that we're just going to keep plugging away at it.

All of us know that the first fundraising attempt isn't going to get much, but every dollar helps, literally, so we put it up anyway.

Thank you for all the support though, it really give me hope!

We've just grabbed our first cast member! Well, technically speaking not cast member. But she is an amateur voice actress who is looking into becoming a professional voice actress! She does a great job and will be amazing for all of the narration work we need doing!

This thread just surpassed 1000 views. Which is pretty impressive.

Also, writing has begun in full force. Scripts and characters will be created very shortly.

Feel free to shout out your art needs. There are numerous talented artists on the boards that would chip in if asked.

All the best Bronnen. I admire your spirit.

If folk only undertook the easy endeavours then the creative vaults would surely be empty. Keep on dreaming.

That's what Joss did.

A former student of mine, whom I introduced to Firefly, is launching his own Firefly-esque web series this month. It's not associated with Firefly/Serenity per se, but seems to be inspired a fair bit by it, though they seem to be going for more of a sketch comedy vibe, using space cowboys as their characters.

I've decided to share the name of one character.

The Web Series will have as one of the main characters a young Rebel called Henry Evans.
