Very well put EB. I'd suggest the same for score, and cinematography too. That being that you really shouldn't be too aware of it. Some times it's nice to catch a clever camera move or whistle along to a great theme (Raiders of the Lost Ark) or appreciate a symbolic edit (Eisenstein) but as a way to engage with the films story such distractions should be kept to a minimum.
In, Out Of Gas, the editing is a necessary device to further the story, and while it does draw attention to itself, it does so to propel the intent.... So I can kind of forgive it's 'flashy' cuts.
