Mostly I joke about it, and people reach for the brain bleach. I guess technically that doesn't count as writing...
On the other hand, I think that's about as long term and meaningful as any of Jayne's interests will ever get.
It's also one of the few crack ships suggested by some of the the show writers to have some basis. One of them wrote a story where Mal speculates that Jayne's relationship with his guns will ultimately be what ends him. That, or drinking too much and mistaking them while in a stupor for women...

I still think it's funny. And so very wrong. And funny.
But to avoid that horrible horrible mental image, I'll say that I also ship Jayne and Saffron, if I'm going to ship Jayne with any living person at all. The relationship will be pure dysfunction and comedy, no fluffiness at all.

Yeah, saffron would come out on top in that one, she is quite smart. It would be so funny if Jayne and Saffron hooked up, she'd see him coming a mile away.

Yes, she would. You can use that in the story. Jayne will say "I'll be in my bunk" and then he will go there and Saffron will already be there.
