My point about streaming is that it does depend on your internet bandwidth connection. Mine is so good that I think most of you would find it hard to tell if I was streaming something or watching a DVD. No buffering, no pixelation, no dropouts. And those are things I do experience on TV broadcasts of HD programming, and my streaming quality is far superior. Yes, a Blu-Ray will be better, but that's about all that can beat it.

Our streaming quality isn't as good as DVDs, but a whole lot cheaper! And having been out of work for four months and still paying kids' college expenses, DVD purchases just aren't high on the necessities list. $8 for Netflix without cable or satellite is easier to handle.

But what I really miss about DVDs is the ability to listen to alternate audio. I have yet to find a DVD that handles translations the same as Firefly. They managed to match both the Spanish and French spoken words to the mouth movements of the actors, which floored me the first time I realized it. Of course, there's no way to convey the folksy conversation and plays on words, but that would have been hard even without worrying about making it look like they were actually saying it.

Yeah, that is a negative about both Netflix and HuluPlus. They do offer subtitles on some foreign films, like the original Swedish Dragon Tattoo trilogy and Let the Right One In, but I wish everything had closed captioning. I've watched some British shows where I could not understand what they were saying, both the strong accents as well as some figures of speech I'm not familiar with.

While I'm not out of work, my hours have been reduced quite a bit lately, so anything I can do to economize works for me. I'm actually watching more stuff now than when I had full cable, plus as I rewatch some of my DVDs I'm compiling a stack of those that I will sell on Ebay like I did a few months back.

It was an amazing show. Season 2 was even better, I thought, but 3 kinda started feeling loose and frayed, as they kept tossing about looking for something to get them viewers and avoid cancellation. Damn shame, that, but still well worth finishing.

Okay, after all my bitching about streaming, we DID watch the Tennent Dr. Who, and boy was that great, buffering aside.
Next Christmas I'm gonna ask for 'em all on DVD.
And UFO- I still don't have that...
But I made sure to get The Prisoner a couple years back!
And every time I even THINK of MAYBE getting The Wild Wild West on DVD, I look at my Brisco County, Jr DVDs & smile. I'll leave WWW a fond memory- Brisco rules that arena for me!

I'm English born and bred and I can't understand all the Bristish accent variations.
If you get a strong Newcastle, Liverpool or Glasgow accent they may as well be talking a different language.

Ive become a streaming convert myself, and have been watching a bunch of shows that way. Started Stargate SG1 last summer, and am about 2/3rd of the way through. Just started Stargate Atlantis. Tore through the first few seasons of Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy. Very much enjoyed the single season of Terriers. On season 6 of my Deep Space 9 rewatch. I loves me my Netflix.
