I'm concerned that the studio felt it necessary to remove the "Of Mars" from the title.

I saw the new trailer, but I actually liked the "My Body is a Cage" trailer better. I thought it had the mood and mystery needed to capture an audience unfamiliar with the material.

I remember a thread about JC of M a ways back on here and at the time it was the first I'd ever heard of it, I knew literally nothing. Seeing this thread I read the comments and headed off to watch the trailer.

So, coming at this from a complete outsiders point of view I really wasn't at all impressed. It just looks like a huge CGI-fest and I'd compare it to the trailers for the Clash Of The Titans or Conan remakes. Another one man army fighting against big monsters (or aliens in this case) and saving the day.
Maybe I'm missing something that you guys get from the source material. If my decision to watch the movie was to be based solely on the trailer I don't even think it would qualify as a download. I'd probably wait until it was on Sky Movies.

I don't mean this in a harsh way but it is the impression I get. Hopefully it will be good but we'll have to see nearer the time. I'll keep my mind open as you guys seem to like it.

I just glanced a bit at the trailer trying to cast aside my fascination with the source material that began with the 70's Marvel comics series

and I have to say I really do understand where you're coming from. And it IS about a one man army saving the day, btw. Another "White man rescues the indigenous people" tale, as it were.
The interesting parts for me are that his character is initially looked down upon by the Green Men, as one even lower than the Red-types.
Then comes the born&raised-in-higher-gravity surprise.
Plus: he's not saving anyone from evil western Earth dudes (like Avatar), but from another indigenous & otherwise unbeatable people that belong to the planet.
Now, if they just get Deja Thoris right- not another dopey hot damsel in distress, but a real character- this movie might be great imo.
If not, then at least it might be a reasonably fun one-off for us Carter fans.

That was the big ah-hah! thing for me when reading the books. It meant that even I could be a super hero... if I got transported to Mars... like next Tuesday would be good.
ERB's Martian world is very cool and rich & Tars Tarkas - as good a friend as you could ever have and he's 8 feet tall and has 4 arms.
And Dejah Thoris - what Chris says. The actress and the designers look of her is great so far imho, the accent - meh.

Oh, and I would have assumed the Hollywood go-to choice for this role would have been Megan Fox (she certainly looks the part), and I'm SO glad it didn't go to her, because the part needs someone who can actually, you know, ACT.

Hey C. I read in Empire I think, that the action pretty much doesn't stop for Brad Birds Mission Impossible. I must admit that worries me...
Van Helsing had a similar structure and by about half way through I was fed up of it all. Of course it didn't help that it was simply terrible but I think part of it was down to the relentless pacing.

and while I loved Iron Giant, I disliked Incredibles and was only so so with Ratouille...
