I was watching part of the Firefly marathon on Christmas, and I'm probably missing something, but how did Mal get his gun back? Saffron takes it, his clothes, and the other shuttle (I think) at the end of Trashand flies off. In the next episode, "The Message", the shuttle is back and so is Mal's gun. By "Heart of Gold", he's definately got that gun back.
So....how?

Inara recovered the shuttle, and we have to assume Mal's clothes and gun too, when she trapped Saffron in the trash bin.

With Saffron trapped in the trash bin by Inara, she gets Mal's gun back, along with the shuttle. Still on the subject of Mal losing his gun: The Operative knocked Mal's gun into The Pit of Death. Is there any short stories where Mal returns to Mr Universe's Moon to get his gun from The Pit? Do Reavers ambush Mal when Serenity lands?

*what Ecgordon and Two wrote about how Mal got his gun back from Saffron*
Regarding how Mal recovered his gun after it was knocked into the generator on Mr Universe's moon when he fought with the Operative:
I wrote about this in my fanfic, The Trial. (no particular spoilers here for the fanfic, in which Mal's gun plays an important role) He didn't return to the moon and try to retrieve the thing. Instead, he did the obvious thing and bought a new one (same model) at a gunshop while they were repairing Serenity. Just my fictional take on it. :-)

Mal's gun falls onto the platform he and the Operative end up fighting on. He can be seen picking it back up right before he leaves.
I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

Quote:You got that perfectly right. Until I looked again, in slow motion, I didn't see. I'd make a terrible eye-witness to a crime.

Mal still has the gun when it's all said and done.

Huh. I'll have to watch that again, closely, in slow motion.
