Joss Whedon points his accusing finger at unnamed FOX TV executive.

Joss hinted at the identity of Firefly's murderer, beginning at 34 minutes into the podcast called Making It with Riki Lindhome #23, December 20, 2011 www.nerdist.com/2011/12/making-it-23-joss-whedon/

This is what was said:

Quote:

Joss Whedon: 'So, cowboys in space? Why are there horses?' That's what the network -- but the person actually running the network and the studio was the same person, was toxic, and I -- I wish him ill. And I don't have very many people in my life that I would say that about.

Riki Lindhome: Yeah and it just, um -- but it wasn't, wasn't a ratings thing? It just?

Joss Whedon: Oh, yeah, it wasn't doing well, but they would not promote it, they didn't air the pilot, they put it in the Friday Night Death Slot, which they have now done to me twice . . .

Who was Joss talking about? Who was the male executive in 2002 running both FOX TV and 20th Century Fox Film Corporation? Is Rupert Murdoch He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?

Anybody have a 2002 organizational chart for FOX so we can discover if there is anyone lower than Murdoch in the hierarchy who also fits Joss' vague description? Once I know who it was, I can direct my prayers and wish him ill.

Joss would not want me to do that, mainly because he's an atheist, but there needs to be divine retribution. Specifically, I will be praying for warts on You-Know-Who's nose this Christmas -- as soon as I know who.

Gee. It sounds like whoever it was is still there on Fox. It's a credit to Joss he was still willing to work with them and see it as just business when he pitched Dollhouse for Eliza.

Between FF and Dollhouse I believe Fox executives turned over at least twice. Despite that, there is a certain corporate culture at Fox that does not change all that much.

This news isn't new, after FOX canned it Joss shopped it around to all the networks including Syfy. Everyone turned it down, but now Syfy sometime does a "Firefly/Sereity" marathon....THEY should have picked it up.

The Science Channel seems to be interested in Firefly. They’ve had several all day marathons and are advertising another one for Christmas Day.

Scy/Fy channel is also running a bunch of Sci/Fi flicks Christmas Day, The BDM included.

There’s still tons of interest being generated by the show, even after almost 10 years, and only 14 episodes. That says a lot all by it’s own-self.

Maybe Joss was pointing the finger at Peter F. Chernin, who should also be in the police lineup for the murder of Firefly. Chernin headed Twentieth Century Fox Filmed Entertainment, as well as Fox Broadcasting Company. - http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/people/person.asp?pe

Saying it was poor ratings that killed Firefly is like a murderer saying that it was gravity that killed the victim and ignoring the little push over the edge of the cliff. Splat! If you didn't see the push, it appears to be an accidental death.
