In Purplebelly's Denouement the only character that dies is Zoe. After that pivotal figure is removed, the disintegration of the Firefly family is inevitable.

I couldn't see any of them dieing... Maybe they can introduce a new character.. build him/her up for a bit then kill him/her off... similiar to what happened with Jenny Calender on Buffy.

I'm going to say Book. Older gentlemn with, apparantly, alot of war type history. He'd be the one that would probably give Mal his faith back.
