The "Black Bloc", and where do we go from here?

Hello Mr. Studer,
If your information is accurate, and you are the relative of the fine Margaret Studer who writes for the National Tea Examiner, I commend you for your courage.
However, when enjoying our freedom of speech and our right to choose anonymity, it is important to remember that there is more at stake for many people than our own personal sense of bravery. When people come knocking at Apartment 4, they may not come for us.
They may come for Margaret, Helena, or Diana. Or they may come for any of the people connected to them or us. The folks who might seek to harm you are not restricted to breaking down your door and accosting you personally. They can hurt people you know who did not volunteer to speak so bravely. They can even eschew direct violence and destroy finances, personal relationships, and all manner of indirect valuables.
They certainly aren't restricted to conventional web searches as a means of getting to you and your loved ones.
I understand that there are some people who aren't quite ready to endanger not only themselves, but everyone they know and love. I hope you can make the logic leap necessary to see this point of view. Not everyone who wears a mask is a coward or a criminal.
There is often much more at stake than your own face.
--Anthony

Never thought of myself as a man with huevos, just a simple honest man.
Not afraid of nobody or nothin'. Said I was, so I am. Always prepared to do what must be done. Ask me a question, challenge me, I respond, with truth. Come looking for those other folks around here, you will no longer find any of them.
An actor leaving the stage should have a simple speech to exit with.
Willie Shakespeare has some good words:
Quote:
I cannot hide what I am; I must be sad when I have cause, and smile at no man's jests, eat when I have stomach and wait for no man's leisure; sleep when I am drowsy and tend on no man's business; laugh when I am merry and claw no man in his humour. I had rather be a canker in my own hedge than a rose in his grace: and it better fits my blood to be disdained of all than to fashion a carriage to rob love from any.
I am a true laborer. I earn that I eat, get what I wear, owe no man hate, envy no man's happiness, glad of other man's good, content with my harm. I have no more philosophy in me but that I know the more one sickens, the worse at ease he is, and he that wants money, means and content is without three good friends; that the property of rain is to wet and fire to burn; that a great cause of the night is lack of the sun; and that he that hath learned no wit by nature nor art may complain of good breeding or comes of a very dull kindred.
If I be foiled, there is but one shamed that was never gracious; if killed, but one dead that is willing to be so. I shall do my friends no wrong, for I have none to lament me; the world no injury, for in it I have nothing: only in the world I fill up a place which may be better supplied when I have made it empty.
Fare you all well, and may we meet again in a better time and place.

Well drat, that sounds like a goodbye. I have friends down that way so I was curious if we know anyone in common.
Anyway - I'm from 'excellent adventure' San Dimas.
But respecting the privacy of my family, I'm not going to post my name. It's for that reason that I don't talk about them much either. I figure their stories are not mine to tell.

Oh, jeez, NewOld, that DOES sound like a farewell! I sure hope it's not, I'd hate to lose a good voice like yours! I'm like you, I don't care who knows who I am or where I live or anything...it's easy enough to find out all about me from just my name if anyone cares to hunt the internet. It's gotten me two painful experiences, but they were soon over and there's no pain in the memories, and I'm not interested in protecting myself against people without cause. I long ago made up my mind about that. My choices are to be open and know I'll get hurt one way or another, or guard myself with everyone, which would be a terrible loss. I'd rather take my chances.
I hope you're not going; if you feel you need a break (who doesn't, after this place!), at least please DO come back, sooner or later. Until then, you will be missed.

First off, NOBC, don't leave! Your presence is welcomed here, and needed.
Second, this is why I'm not too keen on posting my real name here:

If they can cover up who they are while attacking those like me, I figure we can cover up our identities as best we can, too.
Although there are more than a few around these parts who know where and how to find me.

I posite that NewOld was still quoting Shakespeare there? Maybe that's part of the quote? I don't think he's really leaving, and if he is I'm perplexed as to why?

Feh, the Baltimore City PD is where the notion of covering name/badge numbers with black electrical tape first caught on, really - under the lameass excuse of "honoring fallen officers", yeah, right, sure...
Oh, and they DID pull out them fuckin L-Rad cannons, against which our car mounted counter-weapon was less effective than expected both since it's mounted lower (being a trunk-foldout stealth mount) and because the damn cops were using multiple units from several angles.
It WILL dampen the wave, but it's still quite unpleasant to be in the contact zone of the L-Rads effect when our damper hits it - the damping effect will preserve your eardrums/sanity enough to get clear (particularly if you move towards of the damper and GET BEHIND IT) but nothin is going to make that less than really unpleasant...
Side note to that, apparently there's some concept with these damn less-lethal devices or at least in-service, the notion that they make the victims UNABLE TO FLEE, and thus pin them to be "worked over" much to the amusement of the goddamn jackboots - no sign of the ADS units yet, but given how fragile and unreliable they were at the G20, plus how expensive repairs are, didn't expect em to be.

Frem, something that might unnerve the hell out of you, stripped down versions of ADS are being installed in jail cells in Los Angeles.
Sad to hear that your counter for the LRAD isn't as effective as you hoped, but perhaps it's a start. The idea is valid, it might be deploying the counter in the open air that's the problem. But in the very least it offers people a chance to make it to shelter. Perhaps you need to combine two different schematics and functions into one.
Also bounce back, fighting with fire, etc.
