Someday I may have to live in a world with no Stewart and no Colbert. That will be a very sad day. Unlike a day with no Cain/Bachman/Palin/Santorum/Perry/Romney... I'll survive that one, but only because there will all be those juicy internet video clips to remind me of the GOTP fun.

Meanwhile Cain, who says he doesn't really believe there's racism anymore, has made references to "lynching", claimed that it's because he's black, blamed "brainwashed" blacks and "the Democrat plantation", and is now crying about some secretive vast left-wing conspiracy being carried out by "The Machine". And of course he says he has no evidence or proof of any of this.

The more Cain denies that whatever happened didn't...
The more pissed the women that it happened TO will be. The slow drip-drip-drip of ongoing revelations from these angry women, who will refuse to see their sisters taken down individually, will torpedo Cain.
This really IS like Clarence Thomas, but the outcome will be different. Women of that time (that's me) remember Anita Hill being pilloried by the right for daring to speak the embarrassing truth. But people then- black and white- were so caught up with racial politics they couldn't see that Clarence Thomas was a buffoon. Thomas himself has taught many people (blacks included) to look beyond race. Heh.

Good point, Sig, about the other women. That may have been at least partly behind this "fourth woman" coming forward, so there may be more to come. Hopefully; if he gets buried under enough of them, and enough verifiable FACTS...oh, no, wait, I don't WANT the ultra-righties to give up on him, I want him NOMINATED! That would be SO much fun, what with his ignorance, ego and stumble-ability.
Seriously, tho', this is pretty disgusting. Apparently the name of the second woman who got a settlement is known by the media now, so HER life will probably become hell. That's a shame--Anita Hill went through quite enough, and now other women's lives will be affected. Damn these bastards. I would say something along the lines of "MEN!", but I know they don't represent you guys. It's just that once some men get a bit of power, it seems like the first thing their "brains" turn to is how to use it to get sex! And all too often, they succeed.

I just got to see this creepy sleazebag in person, complete with kinda subduded pimp-daddy threads, at a local diner populated by low browed, slack jawed, rightwingnuts who'd make our own Rappy feel at home - seriously, I felt the desperate need to take a goddamn BATH upon my return just from being that close to them, and the whole thing put me of a mind of one of them sleazy religious revivals run by some shyster with that cult of personality goin on, yeah, he has charisma up close and in person - but it's the kind where once you get some time, distance and space you kinda feel the urge to puke, there's a really, REALLY heavy "sleaze factor" which comes along with it - not that any of the (entirely white, mind you) adoring crowd of hate-radio koolaid chuggers seemed to notice or care but what do they ever care for reality anyway, right ?
I give him about two points over even me on the personal charisma thing since mine is certainly more understated, minus a couple on fashion sense, and then it goes into negative numbers quickly on policy and morality - stupidass ripoff tax plan aside, you do NOT want this guy in office - imagine a right-wingnut version of Clinton with suppressed race issues going on underneath the surface cause at one point he was kinda grinding his teeth upon noting ZERO people in the crowd who weren't righty-whitey wingnuts, all the more laughable to me being that he isn't, and they don't seem to REALLY care, so much as mindless obediance to "the cause" in a fashion straight out of the late 1930's.

I'm kinda surprised you stuck around as long a you did, Frem! Did you catch his referring to himself with regard to the Koch brothers as "the brother from another mother"? He doesn't see any problem with that...what's that tell you?
NOW he's in trouble for calling Pelosi "Princess Pelosi" (not for the first time, according to reports). He finds nothing wrong in this; when asked why he's apologizing for saying it, his response was "So you guys will stop asking me about it". The man is, among many other things, totally clueless.
I don't think about him much and wish the news would shut up about him. He's ONLY in it, like Palin, to sell books and speaking tours, and that will become obvious soon enough.
What's truly sad is how the audience boooed even the QUESTION at the debate, and then cheered lustily at his "I'm a victim" answer. Something is truly wrong with the mentality of the right these days, and it's incredibly sad to see.

Cain seems to be surviving the scandal because the GOP truly likes him and because the party really has nowhere else to go but to Romney and because this is a rather tepid scandal compared to what we’ve grown used to from politicians (he abused power but there’s not even allegations of actual sex, so for most people it doesn’t really matter). But there’s also something else. The GOP’s relationship with Cain is more psychologically important than its relationship with any other candidate because Cain is that special thing: the party’s cool new Black friend. You ever see white people in the beginning stage of latching on to a new Black friend? They’re more excited because it’s something new and cool, a font of new thoughts and experiences. This isn’t simply racial: its the thrill of making a connection with someone unlike you who opens you up to new things, like a woman with a new gay friend.
Cain has to survive his still metastasizing sex harassment scandal and his many gaffes and his clear lack of competence, experience and serious intellect because the GOP is so excited about him that they are refusing to really kick the tires (or admit to themselves that when they kick the tires they prove flat). Because they know they need him. See, Cain feeds the myth that racism is over.
Some Obama critics feel they have been wrongly painted as racist for the crime of opposing Obama. Some of their critique has been racist, some has been reasonable, some has been unreasonable but what would be leveled at any Democrat. Either way, Cain offers absolution and liberation from feeling like a racist. For how can the party be racist if there’s a Black frontrunner? I think many in the party genuinely like him and are won over by his chutzpah and respect his journey from Morehouse to CEO. Fair enough. But the ascension of Cain does not prove that racism is over. Just because the party has a cool, new Black friend it’s excited about, doesn’t erase decades of condescending opinions and harmful policies toward Blacks.
Alas Cain, in particular, is not the best person on which to hang your proof that your party isn’t racist. A Black man who denies that racism has an impact on today’s world gives great comfort to people who wish for the race conversation, as opposed to racism, to be over. A Black man who thinks if you don’t have a job, it’s your fault gives comfort to those on one side of the class war. A Black man who wraps himself in minstrelish tropes, like wanting the Secret Service to call him Cornbread and breaking into song at campaign events, surely gives comfort to those who are still not comfortable seeing Blacks as Alpha men. A Black man who can lead in the polls for weeks without seriously convincing anyone that he’s going to win is like having your chocolate and not getting fat. Or getting the walk-on-the-wild-side thrill of dating a Black guy without worrying that you’ll ever be pressured to marry him.

Mostly I wanted to see him up close personally since the opportunity was right there and I had homefield advantage, just like I did with McCain, only he pales even in comparison to McCains self-damning stupidity in lauding Nuclear Power to folks who were still pissed off about Fermi - twas only that the masters ordered it that got him any crowd at all around here.
