Yep, I knew that before season one started. I was encouraged that it might mean someone with a vested interest would be watching to keep the story on track. Doesn't seem to matter who the producers are, keeping close to the original tale is not what they are interested in - or telling a new one intelligently imho.
Yeah, Lord of the Rings was so boring because I'd read it!

I never said a direct adaptation was boring. Im just not going to get upset if they change things. But if you think putting words in someone's mouth is effective discussion, then that says a lot about you.
An adaptation is just that - adapted. Changes are always made, sometimes large, sometimes small. Quality is rarely dependant upon fidelity to the source. Adaptations have been made that were extremely faithful, and not very good. Others have changed a great deal, and been the better for it.
In the case of this show, Id say it's been a bit of both. Some changes I like, others not so much. Meryl and Daryl being prime examples - I find Meryl to be a stereotyped waste of screen time, but Daryl has become on of my favorites on the show.
I judge each adaptation on its own merits or lack thereof, and not on how faithful it is to the source.
And, as I recall... Lord of the Rings didn't exactly make it to the screen unchanged.

Yeah, it did seem to be what you were saying - but, no biggie. I largely agree with your last post, some changes can be good, and this story definitely was going to HAVE to be changed for tv (The Governor). I'm just not liking their choices.
Maybe my expectations were too high - there isn't a lot of tv I look forward to - it feels like a great opportunity has been missed.

It amazes me how much alike, and how completely different the comic/show are. I actually like the show better now than I ever liked the comic series(and I liked the comic a lot).
Fantastic stuff. Funny, I was griping that the show took too many liberties in the first season but now I praise the show for being it's own entity.
Folks, if you haven't seen this show yet you may want to give it a shot. It is without a doubt my favorite show on tv since Firefly.

Well,
looks like season 3 is going to mirror the comic book series closer than ever before. That's a bummer. I was digging the 'surprises' of the tv show. From here on out I think I'll have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen next.
