I just checked IMDB.com's listing for SERENITY. They used to list Alan Tudyk's character as "Jerry Lee 'Wash' Warren." Now he's listed as "Hoban Washburne." Gina Torres is still listed as "Zoe Warren." And on top of that, another poster (who shall remain anonymous) is calling the couple "Zoe and Wash Walburn."

So what the heck is Wash's real full name? Anyone know? I got really attached to Jerry Lee "Wash" Warren -- it just seemed to fit the character. Hoban Washburne sounds like a dumb, bumbling klutz.

I have heard the whole list, and more.

But recently it was reported that Alan Tudyk said (is that vague enough for you?) that his character's name is Hoban Washburne, or is that Washborne?

The "Jerry Lee" think seems to have come from slurred acting during Message, I think.

Yeah and it's no wonder why everybody calls him Wash

It was a mistake made on a fan transcript of Our Mrs. Reynolds. Mal said "Kaylee" while directing his comment at both Wash and Kaylee and this was mistakenly transcribed as "Jerry Lee" and interpreted as a reference to Wash. IMDB listed Alan's character as Jerry Lee "Wash" Warren and that's where all the confusion came from.

The Hoban part came from Alan Tudyk himself. There are some threads in the archives that parse out the story in more detail.

I shaved off my beard for you, devil woman!

Thanks! Our Mrs. Reynolds, not Message.

I stand corrected. Watch:

I still like the notion of a foundling in a public restroom; Wash Your Hands. Nice nod of the head to Red Dwarf
