Well, Joaquin Phoenix is fixin' to play Johnny Cash in a movie -- if he were older, he'd probably be good for Roland.

have done it extensively.
Some choices I don't agree with, including an unknown I've never heard of as Roland.
Chris Cooper seems cool. Although, after reading "The Wolves of the Calla" I'm wondering if it's worth continuing.
Gina Torres is much too hot to play Susannah, IMO.

Whoa, what a cool site!
The problem I have with their Dark Tower picks, though, is that they're too old ... Haley Osment must be 16 by now (and his voice has changed, you might notice if you see "Second Hand Lions"). Definitely not a good choice for Jake anymore.
Same with Pete Berg for Eddie. Good choice, but he was the right age when he did "Chicago Hope" almost 10 years ago.
I really like Stephen McHattie for Roland. I just saw a repeat of an episode of "Monk" (Mr. Monk Goes to the Carnival) where he played the captain's former partner, now accused of murder - I thought he'd be a great Roland. Definitely not a pretty boy.

Nah
Sam Elliot as Roland. No question. He has it all, the remoteness, the right age and serious presence as a gunslinger. Remember him in "We Were Soldiers" as the Sergeant Major? Or in "Gettysburg" as General Reynolds? Sam Elliott has been the mental model for me all through reading this seies of books. I agree the Gina torres is too pretty to be Susannah. She should be more harsh looking. For some reason I had Whoopi Goldberg in mind, she has the right attitude.

Rutger Hower as Roland.
Adam Baldwin could make a great Eddie.
Jada Pinkett as Susannah.
Jake, I have no idea.
The guy who played Calla-Callahan in the recent Salem's Lot movie would work well for the same part again.
Walter/Flagg should be Nathan Fillion.
