Nice, though if Simon & River are siblings, then Simon should be a Unicorn as well (especially since they tend to be the nobility in Equestria). Inara as Unicorn works for just that reason.

Zoe strikes me as more of an Earth Pony --stubborn and hardworking. Or possibly a Griffon, since she's clearly the most dangerous/predatory.

Jayne the Dragon is perfect, as is the Shepherd as a Zebra, since they do tend toward playing the mystic. But does this mean he has Zecora's rhyming shtick?

Mal as an Earth Pony works, given his history as a common labourer. Though he could also be a Pegasus, given his love of flight (who probably lost his wings during the war, for a tragic past).

And I love how Kaylee seems to be a descendent of Pinkie Pie (with the hair and the upside-down-ness). And the Derpy/Dipsy Doo cameo.

Point of trivia; the inspiration/model for FiM's Rainbow Dash was the G1 pony called Firefly. Apparently that name no longer clears legal, 'cause of something or other.
