I too will stand up for PN. more than once I have logged on here, intending to comment or start a thread about something in the news, only to find that PN has already started it, with his own loopy twist. Sometimes nobody else has touched that legitimate story. SO ya gotta give him positive credit now and then. Rest of the time, just shake your head and move on, ignoring him.

While I agree that much of what Piratenews posts is BS, I don't think he's trolling. He's not doing it just to piss people off - he really, REALLY believes that stuff.

I'm just glad I did'nt miss out on one of the biannual ban Pirate News threads. Some of those who defend him now have wanted him banned in the past so don't feel like you are alone. I've always defend his right to post even though he pisses me off as much as anyone. I think the point that someone made about him believing his own crap is one of the most important reasons his posts have merit. I wish I could say the same about some of the other regulars here.

I can't remember any of those who've defended PN here ever supporting any ban of him at all. Certainly I haven't. My support of free speech is universal; after all, if such a right doesn't apply to all, it applies to none.

I agree, as obnoxious as some, many, of his posts are he should have the right to post them if he wants to. I just ignore most of them, click and read some and then move along, but sometimes he does post things that have some validity, ... sometimes. I'm sorry that he does believe all those scary things, I wouldn't want to be in that situation. I'm happy when he posts things about drag racing and stuff because its stuff that he likes instead of stuff that is unpleasant for him to believe, so I like seeing that he has some hobbies that he enjoys, outer space stuff, animal stories etc.

There is no such thing as totally free speech. You're not allowed to shout fire in a crowded theatre, there are laws against slander and libel plus endless copyright restrictions. But the simplest reason why people like PirateNews should be banned is they're pure poison to a place like this. When every other thread is started by someone like him, with titles that are racist, homophobic, anti-semitic or all three, anyone who is a new Firefly fan will come here, see those threads and think "What a bunch of assholes" and leave, never to be seen again.

However, it's entirely Haken's choice - this is his site, his rules, his decision.
