The Philisophical Divide

Instead of focusing on our differences, should we instead focus on our similarities?
Its getting painfully obvious that there are certain issues that everyone will never agree on. They are also issues that will never be resolved.
For example: Abortion. If either side had their way completely and totally, the other would fight even harder and meaner, to get some ground. Its like a pendulum. Tick-tock, tick-tock, back and forth. Noone wins.
So, should we instead focus on what we have in common? (Or, at least the nice things we can all enjoy?)
At least for a little bit. Here are some things I enjoy, with no political leanings.
Opening a can of fresh coffee.
The first cut into fresh construction paper.
Cold water after a long day of toiling.
Laundry dried on a line.
New comic-book day. (Wednesday)
Chipotle. Or, Chick-fil-a breakfast.
The crackle of new book when you open it.
Sorry to be corny.
