I think the point was that throwing blame before investigating was idiotic, leastways that's the one I intended - it's kind of an ongoing argument between me and some of the security down at DTW that while they're busy shaking down imams and cab drivers that sooner or later some fresh faced whitey-rightey is gonna waltz right through their illusion of security and do something nasty...
Thing is, most of the manner in which this garbage is addressed is again, the wrong end of the telescope, like a lot of issues these days - there *IS* no security that'll make the world perfectly safe, not without making it no place to live in, and it still wouldn't be universally effective even then - far better to address the root causes of producing individuals so screwed up between the ears they'll do shit like this.
Which brings me to the current whinge and whine, about how long the response to the incident in question took.
Look, there *IS* no such thing as being ready for something like that, it is by definition impossible without becoming so completely paranoid you might as well just dig a hole and crawl in - and creating the illusion of protection by formenting a security state right out of Orwell isn't the answer either, not to mention it doesn't freakin work and your own so-called-protectors end up being a greater threat to you than anything external or internal ever will be.
People like to blame the easy things, politics, religion, availability of the tools, devices and whatnot used... but frankly that's got shit to do with it, cause once a person is so mentally far gone that they're looking TO do something like this, we as humans and societies have already fucked it up beyond question - and reluctance to admit that culpability is WHY the easy things are blamed.

Kind of interesting times that we initially think 'Islamic Fanatic' every time something horrible happens. Shows how finely tuned our radars are to that kind of terrorism.
In the 80's, when I lived in Europe, the threats were very different. The UK was on constant alert for IRA terrorism, and if you were Irish, you were treated with suspicion, if not contempt.
Spain has the Basque militants, ETA, and in the 70's the Baader Meinhof gang.
Then you have your lone militant, like this man appears to be, someone who operates alone or in a small cell, fanatics who may be politically or religiously motivated, or just plain mentally ill.
We've had a number of those down here, mainly fitting into the mentally ill category, Martin Bryant at Port Arthur and Julian Knight in Melbourne.
I agree with Frem. You can't go around in a constant state of high alert. Life would be too horrible.

I was using "RapLogic™" to point out to Rappy and others that what you describe is EXACTLY what they do every single time they blame the entire Muslim religion for the acts of its worst followers. If they represent every single Muslim in the world, then yes, this guy represents the entirety of Christianity.
