Here's a great article by Roseanne Barr in which she describes the ups and downs of her sitcom. On the last page of the article she mentions when she hired Joss along with Judd Apatow thus giving them their first writing jobs.

Very interesting read (she obviously bears quite a grudge), but then it ends with this:

"Barr now lives in Hawaii […] and will return to TV in Roseanne’s Nuts, a Lifetime reality show."

I can't be the only one who strikes this as extremely hypocritical given her statements.

Excellent artical. I have read similar stories, like what Rod Sterling went through with Twilight Zone and The Loner. Profit is the bottom line. Creativity and imagination only make it to the surface if they slip past the producers long enough to get an audience.

Except that it was 90% full of Roseanne's typical bullshit. Joss has commented that the main thing he learned from his time on Roseanne was how not to run a TV show. It also gets torn to pieces here:

While I agree that TV execs are focused on profit, let's not pretend that on-screen talent are necessarily entirely altruistic.

Roseanne also says her first job was prostitution.*

Which is quite a horrifyin concept.

My broadcasting classes are also horrifyin. TV "news talent" never write their own script for the teleprompter, and journalists are apparently never allowed to work for TV "news".

Oh, you should come over to the UK - our main broadcaster, the BBC, has a policy of only hiring journalists as news anchors and they write their own scripts.
