HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - After months of top-secret shooting, Fox next month will take the wraps off of a reality series that poses a simple question: Who wants to marry a multimillionaire -- who's actually not even a millionaire?

The network has quietly finished production on "Joe Millionaire," a seven-episode series that combines elements of Fox's controversial 2000 special "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?" with ABC's red-hot relationship franchise "The Bachelor." The series will bow Jan. 6 at 9 p.m., filling the time slot vacated by "Girls Club." Alex McLeod ("Trading Spaces") will host.

Looks like there will be no time slot for firefly so a true hiatus is in store.

Joe Millionaire is only a 7 week series... so that slot will be vacant again at the end of January...

Aren't most of the shows that are taking a hiatus off for a few months? This would coincide with Firefly returning in February with the Monday time slot.

My guess, then, is that Firefly is on hold until they either get this or American Idol back out of their schedule.

Which is reasonable. The fact of the matter is, both this and American Idol will make them more money than Firefly will. That's unfortunate, but true, and Fox is still a business. And, yeah, Firefly's ratings have been low because it's in the timeslot it is... but it's also losing its death timeslot. Which means it's not doing as well as other things in a death timeslot.

We're getting a far better deal than we have any right to expect.

You woulda thought they learned LAST time what a freaking disaster that premise was! Their network was a laughingstock for years afterward.

Well, I guesws the old truism about no bad publicity comes in.

Thursdays are still open, right? I mean, then it would be up against Friends & Survivor or C.S.I, but it would at least have a spot.

Actually, the premise of Joe Millionaire sounds potentially entertaining...

"Joe" features 20 single women who fly to France in order to win the affection of a hand-some American they believe to be worth $50 million. The twist: The as-yet unidentified man is actually a construction worker with an annual income of $19,000.

"It's the gold diggers and the ditch digger," one Fox insider said.

hehehe. Well, at least they are making fun of themselves... (since the last who wants to marry... turned out to also not be a millionaire). I still say it's a show about whores. If I were the 19,000/year guy, I would be pissed... hope he doesn't really marry any of them.

And then I'm going to marry Bob Dole and raise penguins in Guam!
