Don't know if this is appropriate here or not, but here goes anyway.

Came across an interesting discussion a while back regarding who you would cast if they did a movie of the Dark Tower. (Uh, in case you haven't guessed, HUGE Stephen King fan here!). My favorite was Gina Torres as Susanna Dean. Is that perfect or what?

I also loved Hugh Jackman as Roland. Yes, I always kinda pictured Clint (who didn't?), but a younger Clint. He's great, but a little long in the tooth at this point.

I also saw a particular actor as Eddie, but can't recall his name!! He played the lead in the movie Phonebooth.

So, whadda you guys think? Any other Steve/Dark Tower fans out there in the Verse?

Hugh's too easy on the eyes (moment for girliness --continue),and if Eddie calling a Roland who looks like Hugh Jackman "long, tall and ugly", I would just crack up every time he said it.
Also, Hugh always comes across as very accessible to me. Yes, even as Logan. Maybe that's just me -- I understand where someone would be intimidated by him, but Logan would just make me feel kind of secure. You know....like Mal. Roland shouldn't make you feel secure. He should make you feel uncertain.

Roland needs to be more remote,less comfortable and also, older. I was talking about this with someone not too long ago, and I like Chris Cooper as Roland. If you don't know him, he was the next-door neighbor in American Beauty, an officer in The Patriot (Gibson, not Segal), he was the horse-trainer in Seabiscuit, and he recently won an Oscar for his role in Adaptation --I can't think what else he's been in except Lonesome Dove. I'm sure there's a picture of him at IMDb.com.
I love Chris Cooper to death, but he is capable of making me want to steer clear of him, and I think that's important for Roland.

It's Colin Farrell in Phonebooth, and I don't know how I feel about that. I think he would need to get some serious vocal coaching, because his New York accent in Phonebooth was not good, and Eddie's so very New York. I think that's my biggest issue -- if Farrell could do a good NY accent, I'd be all for it. Or --hmmmm-- Joaquin Phoenix, maybe. I don't know how he is with accents, either.

I'm a little picky about accents, could you guess? :)

Thanks from giving me the name, Colin Farrell. I agree the accent wasn't on target, but if it got better I still can picture him as Eddie.

And people had said Haley Joel Osmit as Jake, but I don't know, think I'd like to see someone not that recognizable.

Do you think a Dark Tower movie would ever happen? It's tough, particularly since I've hated most of the movies that come from his books (exceptions - Carrie, Salem's Lot (the original), and The Stand. Well, it's fun to think about anyway.

Roland is the man in black, maybe some one who can emulate the hard road of say, Johnny cash in the late 70s, deep voice, deep convictions, ka would demand it. Cant thing of someone who fits that right now but thats what i beleive the character should be compared to in our terms

Per the old discussion, I still say Anthony Stewart Head would do well as Roland. He's older, not conventionally attractive, he's not all typed out like Clint, can play a badass and well and I think could well capture Roland's essentially romantic nature.

FWIW, Anthony Stewart Head has often been described in print as "handsome," and as far as I'm concerned he *is* conventionally attractive.

However, I really can't see an Englishman as Roland. He's not that tall, but James Woods can put across that "don't mess with me" vibe.

Eddie: Robert Downey, Jr., man. But the question is, who's Jake?

BTW I've written some Firefly fics where "Hile" is a conventional greeting and "Man Jesus!" is Kaylee's favorite exclamation.

Well, I also love me some Anthonty Stewart Head, but I do have trouble picturing him as Roland. He can do bad, but he is still too, I don't know, smooth maybe. James Wood was a curious casting. Possibly. When I think about it, I see a cross between Clint and Viggo Mortison (sp). One's too old, one's too young,but they are the TYPE! So who is the cross?

Robert Downey Jr? Maybe I've got him too typecast, but ew. Eddie needs to be more basic, more course.

Well, almost every actor has been described as "handsome" at some point in print, or some sort of synonym. But you're right, I don't think an Englishman is the way to go, love ASH as I do.

What about that kid in Peter Pan for Jake? He was in Frailty as well...I can't recall his name right now. He may be getting too old, though.
