Just watched "Paranormal Activity 2" last night. That movie f**ked my head up. It's not just the stuff that happens - it's the stuff that DOESN'T happen when you're all tensed up and waiting for it. Almost the whole movie is designed to keep you on the edge of your seat, just WAITING. And you keep having to watch the whole screen, just so you don't miss something up in a corner or off down the hall.
Supremely creepy.
Tonight we're watching "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World".

I did not fall asleep. I can definitely say that. The movie seems to be premised around the mind-numbing question of "how much shit can we pile on the train tracks before it finally gets noticed by a train?"
In fairness, though, I can say this: Of all the train movies Denzel Washington and Tony Scott have made in the last two years, this was one of them. If I really wanted to heap on the adulation, I'd amend that statement thusly (and they can feel free to use this as a cover blurb for the Director's Cut): "This is the best train movie Scott and Washington have done together this year!"
The thing that pissed me off most about that movie was Tony Scott's insistence on having a news helicopter in EVERY. DAMN. SHOT!
I mean, even when we're looking at the train from directly level with the cab, which would put the chopper on the same level as, oh I dunno... POWER LINES, maybe!
All the news choppers I ever see in L.A. never go below 1,000 ft.

clj: It wasn't just that - hell, a chopper being that close to the train WHILE THEY'RE TRYING TO DISCONNECT IT AND YELL BACK AND FORTH TO EACH OTHER would be disastrous, if for no other reason, just because the noise and rotor wash from the damn chopper(s) would make communications impossible.

Not helping matters is that my ex has also read and suggested them, and even though I kept her in the dark to protect her, seems to know far more than is good or safe for her to know - although I do think she's bluffing, for the most part.

Yes, and I too have friends that recommend movies to me which suck harder than a shopvac - for some reason Rev's taste in movies leaves me wondering if someone dropped him on his head as a baby...
Interesting note about Lisbeth, her B-day is the same as mine and with the same rather rare stellar configuration, which if you believe in such things leads to an insane combination of self-determination and bloodlust, it's also shared by that old goosestepper Adolph, just for trivias sake.
Some of the events and persons in the first book are based on real people and events, which I think is one reason the author was initially reluctant to publish it, but there's only maybe five or six folk still alive who could even make those connections any more, and most of the perps are sleeping with the fishes too, so it's a dead issue - but if he'd published it say ten years ago, boy howdy that *would* have been kicking a hornest nest.
So where can I get these movies and/or miniseries ?
I heard there's gonna be an english adaptation, but I think we ALL know that's gonna go as well as M-Nutty-Suckheads "adaptation" of Avatar: The Last Airbender - just the WORDS Hollywood + Remake are emetic in their pulchritude these days... so no, NOT interested in that.

My sis-in-law (the one who recommended "Unstoppable", no less) dropped the four-disk box set on me. There's a bonus disk as well as the three movies, but I haven't watched it yet.
I've seen them at Blockbuster, so assume they're pretty much everywhere that rents/sells DVDs.

Watched Wheels on Meals last night. The film that introduced me to Jackie Chan. Still enjoy the stunts and the bad dubbing somehow makes it funnier!
As for Big Trouble in Little China Awesome film. There really isn't a hero quite like Jack Burton. Good fun rainy day film! Classic.
Caught Grosse Point Blank too the other day, which is a shamefully underated Cussack film. I think if you grew up in the 80's with all those teen angst films that he was such a big part of back then, then Grosse Point Blank works all the better.
Sometimes I like pairing films together as you've done Chris. After I watched Grosse Point Blank I watch Hot Tub Time Machine. Good combo!

Frem, don't do it! Read the books, by all means, but leave the movies till after! They're really nothing more than spoiler filled trailers for the books. Like seeing Firefly minus all the scenes onboard Serenity.
And I wouldn't discount the American remake out of hand. The Swedish versions were really by-the-numbers, greatest-hits reels of the books and the complexities of the police procedural style storylines, and the genuine complexity of the characters, lost (perhaps with a couple hours of miniseries some of that could be corrected, but the last movie, Nest, has some truly boneheaded rearrangements of the plot that defy justification). And one impressive performance by Noomi Rapace.
Meanwhile the American version is being directed by David Fincher and he hasn't let me down yet, does police procedural (Zodiac) as well as anybody, and isn't about to put together a mere "remake" to cash in. And the screenwriter has penned a ton of fine films including Jack the Bear and Schindler's List.

I always preferred Snake Pliskin to Jack Burton.
My fave John Cusack role might be in Map of the Human Heart, underated.
Haven't seen cinema in awhile, working too much.
I did like Apaloosa almost as much as Open Range.
How is it that DarkAngelfanaticIsAll mentions Machete without noting it is Jessica Alba's first time on film without any clothes? Huh? Also Lindsay Lohan's first nekkid movie scene.
Wasn't the Machete Trailer in theaters like 3 years ago? They must have shelved it for a while, or something.
