I am a validation engineer in the pharmaceutical industry. That means that companies hire me to document that they are following the FDA regulations when they install equipment, produce a product, etc. And I tell them what they are doing wrong and what they have to do to fix it.
So, in other words, most of the time I'm a necessary evil, and I'm treated as such. But when the FDA walks in for an audit, I'm suddenly very popular...

IT Networking guy at the University of South Dakota. So our cable modem/router/wireless setup at home is a professional necessity. Woo hoo!
I also pull in the (very) occasional modest fistful of dollars performing folk/bluegrass/gospel music. So of course the musical style of Firefly is right up my alley, and one of the things that drew me right in.

I pay my bills by being retail and customer support at CellularOne (if you are in the Midwest region of America, I'm the person the salesguy is yelling at on the other end. 
I'm in a bit of a crisis at the moment. For the first time, I have no frelling idea what I want to do with my life and no real idea on how to get direction.
What I am...
* A fanfic writer with 15 years worth of stories in several universes under her belt. Firefly just got my attention, and I have nasty ideas for the crew...
* A political activist and left-wing radical. I see injustice, inequality, and imbalance and it really pisses me off! I sing with the Seattle Labor Chorus, am getting involved with a group called Radical Women (an offshoot of the Freedom Socilist Party), a proud ACLU member since 1995, participated in 5 anti-war protests this year...you get the general idea. (Fanfic is how I relax from this stuff.)
Given that, I will return to this normal conversation.
