what is "Blue Sun"
i've seen it referenced on sites a few times and must have missed something.

Not at all. We really don't know what Blue sun is. It seems to be a corporation which produces things all the way from shirtis to canned foods. Jayne is often seen with Blue Sun shirts. However, River appears to have a dislike for Blue Sun... possibly in connection with the Blue hands agents. She rips up the labels off canned foods wit Blue Sun logo and slashes Jayne across the chest when he's wearing a Blue Sun t-shirt. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.

Blue Sun is a corporation (namly the shirts/food/etc...). Possibly it produced/produces war goods? That would explain Jayne wearing it (possibly).
Or it's a nationalized governemnt corporation front for the Blue Hand special projects division.
