I always thought it was from border reivers in Scotland, but recently I ran into the word somewhere else. I'm trying to remember where.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

There was some book written a while back by some famous author entitled The Reavers, I wonder if it relates.
