Had a call from a friend who I'd been trying to get hooked on our beloved show for years with the DVDs (to no avail), saying that they just saw the pilot on Science Channel, and that they "freakin' LOVE it!!"

I figured it had been a while since I'd watched my own DVDs, so I popped in Disc 1, deciding to listen with the commentary on.
I'd almost forgotten how wonderful Joss & Nathan were together!
I know a LOT of people who collect tons of DVDs, yet they've never listened to a commentary track in their life! They say, "It's probably boring." True, many directors & actors just don't know how to talk-while-watching in an interesting way.
But I'm addicted to commentaries, and there are some great ones out there:

• Anything with Joss and/or Nathan
Hellboy
The Rundown
Equilibrium
• Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet
Ronin
Day Break
The Middleman
Dark Skies

Basically, I just wanted to be sure that everyone's listened to the one for "Serenity".

I love the Pilot commentary. And the OiS one. I haven't re-watched the series in a while, but the last couple times I did, I watched with the commentaries on. And I'm not usually big on them.

I recommend the tracks on The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China. John Carpenter and Kurt Russell are a great team, and record very entertaining commentaries.

I spend more time on a DVD watching all the other stuff than the actual show!

They are a great on those commentaries. Do you know if they also talk over Escape From New York and La?

Another one with Carpenter is Starman with Jeff Bridges. A little more sedate than with Kurt Russel but insightful nontheless.

Carpenter also pays homage with his commentary on the original The Thing, though he is being a great deal more technical and nostalgic it's still enjoyable.

Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith with the commentary for Donnie Darko. Mostly because Smith keeps pushing Kelly to say something outrageous while they chat... Funny.

For me, watching commentaries takes away the mystery of the film/show, so it is unpleasant for me often. I believe that if I watched the commentary for Firefly it wouldn't be a good thing for me. But its cool that you guys like it.

Pretty much any of the commentaries with Nathan Fillion or Alan Tudyk are hilarious. They are just so great! War Stories and the Pilot have my favorite commentaries.
