Facebook is overrated

I stopped using social networking sites about 2 years ago. My wife suffers from both paranoid schizophrenia and bi-polarism. I actually met her on MySpace through a friend's page. After we moved in together, she was ALWAYS questioning who all my female friends were (most were family members back in Michigan) and it got to the point that I valued her feelings more than my want to keep up with old friends. And I figured at the time that I still had email for family.
Unfortunately, no one in my family uses email any longer, except to re-send joke spam ad nauseum. I still call every now and then to catch up, but it's nothing like it was when I was socially networked. Kinda miss it sometimes.
The worst part about it all was the fact that I did sometimes get contacted by exes, and those REALLY set my wife off. Never mind what the intentions were, to her it was ALWAYS about other females wanting to steal me away from her.
Oh well, life goes on without online social networking. Just slower.

Yes.
Not only that, but they sell your personal information out to credit card companies, commercial institutions, and government agencies.
Nuff said.
The Social Network was a hit piece though. Like someone else said, Zuckerberg doesn't have enough personality to be an asshole, the movie was funded by the people who think Zuckerberg cheated them. That's why some of the people came off smelling like roses.

That seems to be a hot topic lately on the news. Just last week someone released an application on Facebook that allows you to track someone's relationship status.
If it weren't for this site. I probably wouldn't be on Facebook or Twitter.
Fortunately, no problem with exes for me. They actually scare me and never going there.

I hate having to wish happy b-day to folks I've not even talked to in 20+years.
I feel that they'll think I'm just being phony, and that it's not sincere.
Which may be a bit true.

Hi Steg,
I'm sorry that your wife is upset by you using facebook, it sounds like you don't mind too much giving it up, maybe if your friends know why you don't choose to do that anymore they could make an extra effort to call you/email you etc. Its important for you to have friends and people to talk too. Maybe you could talk on the phone with them or text and your wife wouldn't be as frightened by that, less chance of exes contacting you etc.
