Good point, P'belly.

Once is okay, twice gets uncomfortable and thrice starts looking like...

BTW, I clicked your link to serenitymovie.com and got a login; logged in and clicked again and no dice; then cut-n-pasted into the address bar, and still got nuthin'. Was there actually some content you were pointing to, or were just making a point about self-promotional material on fansites? Or were you just trying to remind everyone here that Haken is the #3 team member on the rival (if official) site?

In conclusion, I build my own computers and give away 'trickled down' upgrades to my kids' schools, so, no, you can't buy them. I have nothing against someone trying to earn a living doing what they love, as long as they don't make a pest of themselves...

As Bluntly As Ever,

I just copied the link from the front page with my browser without testing the link (my bad) because (you know me so well) I was just making a point.

I don't think it's worth building your own computer anymore. Hardware and software compatibility are a pain. The prices on mainstream computers are very cheap nowadays. Don't forget to factor in the time involve to build it. Furthermore, you get technical support and a warranty.

Check http://www.bensbargains.net/
for very good deals on computers and electronics.

Just curious. Have you tried using tech support lately? It's a merry-go-round of fingerpointing--"it ain't our hardware, it's all Bill Gates' fault."

I tried to get Dell to replace a faulty DVD Writer (a design flaw which was well documented on their OWN site). The ruttin' thing never wrote a DVD from Day 1. After two weeks of back-and-forth, do-this and do-that, their only answer (in broken English) was to reformat and reinstall Windows.

Not worth the aggravation, and the warranty is not worth the electronic paper it's printed on.

I finally replaced the drive at my own expense, which was probably the point of the whole exercise. They would rather lose a customer than replace a part that probably cost them all of $25.

Now THAT's a waste of time (and money). IMO, build your own, at least you have control over what's in it.

Compaq/HP was excellent in that they replace my faulty motherboard and battery on my notebook within 4 days. However, the industrial design of the laptop sucks. Next time, I'll read reviews before buying any computer.

Mainstream computers are ok if you don't know anything about computers. But too many of them come with cases that squeeze everything in there as tightly as possible making it nigh unto impossible to upgrade anything not to mention poor circulation and cooling, which kills PC life and performance. And all mainstream PC's come with a gauntlet of mostly unwanted software packages that are a pain in the ass to uninstall. The computers I build are built for customization. No software but the O/S, so you put what you want on it, and nothing you don't want. And these machines have cases designed for expansion and airflow. All of my cases come with at least four case fans, helping cool the computer, which increases lifespan and performance, AND allows you to overclock if you so choose. These cases can also have really geeky awesome features like the option to have clear side panels and LED case fans to add glowy fun! I could make a computer for pretty cheap. I've been working on a machine that would weigh in at about $500. There wouldn't be much there, but it would be just like all the other $500 machines out there.

He was merely commenting that you are yet again hijacking the thread for your own purposes, with very little concern for the topic of Firefly at all. As a general rule, fansites aren't boards for ads unless you're paying for them. I'd talk to Haken if you'd like to get to contract with FFF.net It's getting to the point that this thread might belong in troll Country.

1) I have talked to Haken, and got his permission before making the thread.
2) I made the thread, so I can't be hijacking it.
3) I wanted to offer fellow Firefly fans here on FFF.net a discount, hence why I made the thread.
4) As soon as I get everything set up, it is my plan to join the FFF.net Fan Marketplace. Which Haken suggested to me.

Thanks.
